Bill Clinton was not my favorite president but thanks to his administration and Congress a bill like RFRA was passed -- this bill allowed Bible Clubs back into the piblic school systems. It also allowed for release time in order for students to attend religious programs operated by Child Evangelism and other ministries.  It was a good thing.

First of all, let me say that I believe homosexuality is wrong but I believe many things are wrong: excessive drinking, drunkeness, gambling, premarital sex and many many other thngs but I would never hurt anyone physically or emotionally because of my beliefs. I might explain my beliefs and try to persuade someone why I believe the way I do. I also believe in the free exercise of religion, I also believe that to a certain extent our religious freedoms are being eroded in this country as well as around the world. However, this law is very misguided and should not be enacted. It does open a whole can of worms. As CT has already said - then a gay or lesbian business could refuse to serve Christians. Also, it is this kind of action, that turns the public off from the true Gospel. I am not sure why my Indiana brothers decided to pass this law. Perhaps they were trying to protect their children from the open affection between gay or lesbian couples in a public restaurant, I don't know, but I do believe this law is wrong. I thought that our legislators investigate, research, and then think long and hard before passing a law. I am not sure they thought about this law before passing it.

O.K. Great -- but now the entire school board should resign and a new election held. This would be the first step. It would mean a new beginning. For the sake of the school district , this school board should resign as did the appointed receiver. After a new school board is elected, the matter of a true school improvement plan could start!

The interest and excitement that this webcam has created is nothing short of phenmonal! If ever the Pennsylvania Game Commission along with with various community business sponsors, did something great -- this was it. I don't think I ever recall such excitement in any Pennsylvania Wildlife endeavor in my lifetime. As I said before, the Commission should really try have other webcams of Pennsylvania's wildlife and birds. No one will ever know how much this project has helped the citizens of Pennsylvania appreciate our wildlife and how much interest it has created in preserving our wildlife. Even the fining of the reporter and the person who showed the reporter was a blessing because it taught and created greater respect for our wildlife and the laws that protect.

Pete Rose has officially applied for reinstatement in Major League Baseball. Personally I feel his reinstatement is long over due especially since we reinstate many other professional sports figures who have been charged and convicted of animal abuse, sex offences, child abuse, assault and battery, racial slurs, biting ears off and varoius other charges. While I believe our sports figures should be clean law abiding citizens and when the offence is serious should be banned from their sports -- the fact is they aren't. And so there should not be a double standard - Pete Rose should be reinstated. He should also be admitted to the Hall of Fame even  in spite of his gambling charges. A number of other sports figures who have been guilty of crimes worse than Pete's, have been admitted to the Hall of Fame. You can't take away his great baseball accomplishments. What are your thoughts? Here is the story -http://www.cleveland.com/nation/index.ssf/2015/03/pete_rose_submits_official_app.html

That is realy neat -- thanks for sharing. The last time we had a super moon, we had a party and viewed the moon on an abandoned piece of property where there were no city lights to interfere. We used our binoculars and had fun even though very few people showed up.

Yesterday I heard that only one person showed up for the March 9, 2015 meeting -- that is really sad. Hope more people come to this Saturday's meeting at 9:30 am at the Historical Society on East Market Street. I fear part of the problems facing the York County Historical Trust is due to lack of public support and interest.

There is still time to let your voice be heard about the difficult decisions that the York County Historical Trust must consider. There is a public meeting being held on Saturday, March 21 at 9:30 am in the Historical Society building on East Market Street, There is also the possibility of additional meetings being held. If you are free and want your voice heard about the possible changes the York County Historical Trust is considering, please try to make this meeting.

Oh, I think things will change.

First of all for the good of the entire school district and the community, I believe that each member of the present school board should resign and new members elected through a special election -- now would be the best time when the issue is fresh in the minds of everyone involved and people have very strong emotions and feelings -- we need some really good people who have leadership abilities and who can think out of the box and who are willing to try new things without a political, racial or protective agenda. I believe this to be a very necessary step to wipe the slate clean. Some would argue that there may be good people on the board and we would lose them -- that may or may not be true but for the good of everyone, the slate must be wiped clean.

Secondly I believe the Education Association of the school district city of York should in good faith agree to a minor reduction in salaries and benefits -- this would show good faith and perhaps get the ball rolling. I believe this reduction in salary and benefits should be minor so as not to severely impact the teachers and employees of the District and be understood as a temporary concession. I know this would not be popular but in a time of great touble, everyone needs to sacrifice somewhat -- during the Second World War everyone sacrificed something -- during the current situation in York City School District, everyone should sacrifice something.

Thirdly, there is a vast reservoir of retired teachers and others out there in York County. Someone needs to organize a task force of volunteer retired teachers and other qualified community residents who could provide afternoon and evening tutoring and also in class - one to one help for at risk students. The Salvation Army already provides an after school program for this purpose.  We need to make use of this great resource!

Fourthly, the mayor of York and School District Superintendent and to add importance to this idea, The Governo

There is absolutely nothing wrong with using the American flag motif i.e. red, white and blue bunting, American flag patterned t-shirts, American flag patterned shorrts, Olympic costumes, American patterned pens and pencils, jewelry, shoes, etc. Those expressions can be interpreted as a sign of real patriotism. The real problem that some of us have is when you use an actual flag for these purposes. Some of us feel that is disrespectful -- Use all the American flag designs you wish on clothing, shoes, costumes, majorette uniforms, building decorations, pens, pencils, jewelry, etc. -- that is not a problem but some of still feel it is in poor taste to use an actual American flag for these purposes -- not because we worship the flag or spend too much time worrying about the flag but the country for which it stands. The flag etiquette rules have been set up as a standard for the proper care and display for our flag --they are not a law but a set of respectful guidelines. No one has ever been arrested for not displaying the flag properly or for not caring for it properly. Some years ago a law was going to be passed that made it a Federal Crime to burn or desecrate the American flag. I don't believe that law got final passage -- I believe because it was not considered to be a major crime and would just require too much time to enforce, etc.I agree that it should not be a Federal crime - however, I do believe people should respect the flag -- not because it is a flag but because of the country for which it stands
