Another one of them GOP debates

In case you missed it, the GOPers got together last night for another debate. I caught a good bit of while flipping back and forth to the Central Michigan-Toledo game.

Credit where credit is due, Fox Business did a pretty decent job. Thoughtful substantive questions, minimal fluff, and they did their best to keep things equal in terms of time given to each candidate.

And since you're dying to know, here's my grades on the individual performances

John Kasich - A++++ -- In my opinion, the class of the bunch last night. Brought the most substance, fire, articulated thoughts. Also directly challenged Trump, Cruz, and Paul on Defense, Wall Street, and Immigration. He's far too intelligent, emotionally stable, and thoughtful to be the GOP nominee. I would like to see him get a bump out of the debate, but for some reason he just resonate with conservatives.

Marco Rubio - B+ - Stayed above the fray. Answers everything in stump speech form. Didn't hurt himself in the least.

Carly Fiorina - B - Solid performance. Didn't talk much but when she did, really elicited some decent talking points. The weird thing about Carly is the longer she's in this race, the less impressive she becomes. It was like she hit her high water mark just by getting into the prime time debates. I see her fading fast.

Rand Paul - C+ - Probably his best debate performance of those I've seen. Made Trump look like an ass on TPP. As always, represents the Libertarian wing of the GOP well, which is something, I guess. Although sounded like his dad a few times, which isn't a good thing.

Jeb Bush - C - Didn't hurt himself. Didn't help himself. Painful to watch him try anything to gain traction. He really needs to get out.

Ben Carson - D - Didn't say anything of interest. I thought he was treated with kid gloves by Fox considering everything that was in the news about him in the last week. Seemed stale, disinterested.

Donald Trump - F+ - More incoherent, canned rambling answers. Isn't even funny anymore. Doesn't know anything about TPP and perhaps global economics as a whole. And to top it all off, my sense is that he's starting to get bored with this whole running for President thing.

Ted Cruz - F - Wants to put us back on the gold standard apparently. Dramatic talking points, but zero substance. Unable to explain or defend his economic policies when pressed.

And in the undercard debate:

Chris Christie - A - A man among boys in the group.

Huckabee, Jindal, Santorum - F minus minus minus - Get out of the race already.

I like Kasich as well. And the Trump act is wearing real thin.
He's just going to crumble like we knew he always would. (That's going to break hearts over at Morning Joe).

I think that people are staying in, anticipating a radical restructuring when the joke candidates like carson and trump fade. Then its going to be an establishment guy ( I hope Kasich) vs a uberconservative.
Perhaps Kasich vs that repugnant Cruz?

We live in a time in which decent and otherwise sensible people are surrendering too easily to the hectoring of morons or extremists.

I still stand by my thought that Rubio ends up with the nom.

Carly Fiorina - B - Solid performance.

Surely you jest.  When one of the moderators outlined the economic performances of the last few presidents, pointing out that America seemed to do better with Democratic presidents, Fiorina said something like, "Yes, America has done better when Republicans were in the White
House."

Good catch Fred, but remember, I judged her "performance" which is what these early debates are about. Nobody comes out of these GOP debates saying, "Wow, Donald Trump had a very articulate position on Capital Gains Tax Cuts". At this point, it's just who appears to be presidential/funny/angry, etc.

And that's what I was judged everyone, except Kasich, who did actually articulate some points on immigration, the economy and the like.

I understand, Lager.  The R-Tribe nomination process this year is so awesome and out of control that the entertainment value has turned the whole thing into a 'wait-and-see-happens-next' reality show.
