Carson Declares Moon Made of Cheese

Well, actually he didn't. But, the day ain't over yet.

Morning Joe hosts scorch Ben Carson: Does he think Noah built the Eiffel Tower, too?

The Morning Joe crew found themselves wondering about Ben Carson’s worldviews after learning the 2016 candidate still believes that the biblical figure Joseph built the pyramids in Egypt to store grain.

Carson’s theory first came to light when Buzzfeed found a video of his commencement speech at Andrews University, in which he said, ““My own personal theory is that Joseph built the pyramids to store grain.” The university is associated with Seventh Day Adventists, an evangelical Christian faith the retired neurosurgeon adheres to. During the speech Carson also said some scientists believe aliens built the pyramids, which is not true.

“It doesn’t require an alien being when God is with you,” he had said.

When asked about the comment recently, Carson doubled down.

“The pyramids were made in a way that they had hermetically-sealed compartments. You wouldn’t need hermetically-sealed compartments for a sepulcher. You would need that if you were trying to preserve grain over a long period of time,” he said.

The Morning Joe hosts seemed to be left speechless by the comments.

“I’m completely speechless, I mean what can you say about that?” journalist Eugene Robinson said.

“Yeah but you could say, ‘I was drunk when I gave that speech and now I take it back,'” Joe Scarborough suggested.

Robinson then said Carson’s theory begs a lot of “follow-up questions about history.”

“In this case, I kind of want to know now how old Ben Carson thinks the earth is,” Scarborough said. “If you say something like that you — for a conservative, opened the door. Do you believe the earth is 5,000 years old. Do you believe its billions of years old? Because this is some really, really quirky stuff… I wanna know if he thinks Noah built the Eiffel Tower.”

Re: Carson Declares Moon Made of Cheese

I noted that late yesterday Carson tried to dismiss the ridicule being directed his way as an attack on his Christian faith by "secular progressives".

I call Bull Shit.

I have become very interested in my Catholic faith, and I - as well as many other religious people - can state with absolute certainty that there is not a single biblical reference to Joseph building the pyramids. So Ben, don't you dare try to pass this off as some sort of attack on Christianty.
This is your own loony theory. And it is NOT supported by the bible, Egyptian writings or ANY physical evidence!

Scarborough had a good tweet in response to that saying, forget about secular progressives, he's a life-long Southern Baptist and he thinks Carson's pyramid statement is nuts.

I wouldn't worry too much about Carson. Trump the was the flavor of the month from August to Mid-October. Carson is getting his time under the heat lamp and is clearly melting. I suspect between now and Iowa, Cruz and Rubio will get a brief period of time in or near the top of polls.

I wonder if this is going to be 2012 all over again. Will the GOP try on every candidate before settling on the establishment guy?

Re: Carson Declares Moon Made of Cheese

Yeah, Carson's done.....

Ben Carson’s campaign on Friday admitted that a central point in his inspirational personal story was fabricated: his application and acceptance into the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

The academy has occupied a central place in Carson’s tale for years. According to a story told in Carson’s book, “Gifted Hands,” the then-17 year old was introduced in 1969 to Gen. William Westmoreland, who had just ended his command of U.S. forces in Vietnam, and the two dined together. That meeting, according to Carson’s telling, was followed by a “full scholarship” to the military academy.

West Point, however, has no record of Carson applying, much less being extended admission.

“In 1969, those who would have completed the entire process would have received their acceptance letters from the Army Adjutant General,” said Theresa Brinkerhoff, a spokeswoman for the academy. She said West Point has no records that indicate Carson even began the application process. “If he chose to pursue (the application process) then we would have records indicating such,” she said.

When presented with this evidence, Carson’s campaign conceded the story was false.

Re: Carson Declares Moon Made of Cheese

How does someone do that amount of construction in a single lifetime?

And why did the Egyptian's decide to store dead people in them instead?

And why did they include all the treasure?

And why did they need that much 'grain storage'?

Where were they going to get that much grain in the first place?

This guy was a brain surgeon?

Hey, there's more.
Why store grain in the desert instead of in cities where people eat it, or in a port where you can ship it and sell it?

Also, here's a cross-section of the pyramid at Giza.

Anything stand out?
What struck me was, my my, those Egyptians sure did move a lot of stones to create such a tiny space. Wouldn't you expect it to be a large, warehouse structure rather than a bunch of tiny passages?
And why narrow inclines to get to the King's chamber. Wouldn't you expect a wide, level entrance that would facilitate wagons pulled by oxen and filled with grain?

Doesn't seem to hold up so well for Ben. Now, Noah building the Eiffel tower, that makes sense. A tall pole to tie the ark to so that it wouldn't drift away. It's obvious.

Re: Carson Declares Moon Made of Cheese

It just amazes me how people will cling to a clearly preposterous notion.

Is he afraid he won't get elected if he admits to a mistake?
