Getting Fred Up to Speed
Welcome back, Fred. An update.
Trump still leads the Republican field, No one has yet figured out why.
Ben Carson is still crazy.
Mike Huckabee seems to be running for some sort of baptist pope rather than president.
JEB! still awaiting a charisma transplant.
Biden,,,, still thinkin'.
They just issued an Amber alert to attempt to find Rick Santorum.
The House GOP is destroying themselves.
The Republicans themselves admitted that the Benghazi hearings are nothing more than olitical show trials.
We killed a few dozen hospital patients and Doctors without borders workers as part of Operation Enduring Clusterfuck. (Destroying whatever is left of our reputation in the world.)
Oh, and there were three or so school shootings and the usual resultant gun nut rants.
There, Fred, you are pretty much caught up here with events on the fruited plain.
My advice, you might want to go back to Florence! 
We live in a time in which decent and otherwise sensible people are surrendering too easily to the hectoring of morons or extremists.

Thanks for the update. Seems it's about the same place where we were when I left. Several Italians I met and spoke with asked what the hell is going on with politics in America these days.. I told them I have no idea, but in general we elect celebrities and then wonder why they don't perform like statesmen while they amass personal fortunes.
They understood, but told me they've had a couple more centuries to perfect the same system. What's interesting is the observation that it doesn't matter whether a nation is founded as a democracy, a monarchy, a dukedom or duchy, a papal state, etc. The results are the same ................... the country eventually is controlled by the wealthiest for their own personal gain.
