If all of the staff and students had guns this wouldn't have happened.
More guns. That's the answer. Everyone shoot everyone else and effing get it over with.
I'm going to cry now.

Once again we'll have the "debates" about the cause of incidents such as this. One side vehemently defending their interpretation of their second amendment rights. One side bemoaning the fact that something needs to be done. The NRA, and other like groups, will insist on leaving guns out of the discussion of gun violence. These arguments, that lack any semblance to reasonable discussion with the purpose of arriving at any actionable solutions, will fade in the next news cycle.
Then, we'll wait . . . for the next gun violence incident at a school, at the workplace, in the mall, at the theater, or at church, and have the same "debates". This is insanity. The only people that have a long term memory of these acts are the friends and families of the victims. Think about having to live the rest of your life with the memory of a senseless shooting like this. Do we have to wait until those survivors are the majority in this country until something is done to avert these shootings?
A sad commentary on the merry-go-round of inaction when it comes to dealing with gun violence in "the greatest country on earth".

Some dope on facebook is explaining to me how guns have nothing to do with shootings.

This is what you get when guns sales are valued more than lives.

Five stars, Lager. As I browse the news/opinion sites, I note that everything is playing out in strict accordance to the established script.
Especially frustrating to me are statements by conservative lawmakers giving lipservice to improving "mental health".
1. Who are they fooling? They would never fund it. (it's "Big Government", after all). In fact they have never used their majority in the house to pass a bill for it.
2. "Mental Health care" is not a panacea, as I have written earlier.
They have no commitment to this issue. It's just something to say in order to oppose gun laws.
I am frankly sick to death of these guys pointing out that crazy people do crazy things as if it is some sort of revelation. Something none of us has happened to figure out over the years.
Here's a thought. Let's provide the billions of dollars required to improve mental health services. Maybe it will reduce the incidence of crazy people doing crazy things.
But, wouldn't it be nice if, on those occasions when we fail and a crazy person does do something crazy, that he doesn't have a Glock or AR 15 in his hands at the time?

I've seen data that shows that the US has more gun deaths per capita than do the democracies of Western Europe and Japan.
I've seen data that shows that the US has more guns per capita than do the democracies of Western Europe and Japan.
But what I have not seen is data showing that the US has more mental illness per capita than do the democracies of Western Europe and Japan,
Just sayin'
