The definition of 'gaffe'

In Washington the definition of a gaffe is when you accidentally speak the truth.

Tongues are wagging because Kevin McCarthy told the truth, and boy are his fellow republicans hopping mad about it.
http://www.cnn.com/2015/09/30/politics/kevin-mccarthy-benghazi-committee-speaker/index.html

House majority leader Kevin McCarthy was asked by Sean Hannity what the republican house has accomplished.

He answered not by naming any legislative accomplishment. Instead McCarthy said that republicans put together the Benghazi committee which "drove Hillary Clinton's numbers down."

So, now you know what those 10 sets of hearings were for.
Straight from the elephants mouth.

We live in a time in which decent and otherwise sensible people are surrendering too easily to the hectoring of morons or extremists.

Re: The definition of 'gaffe'

McCarthy's statement:

“What you’re going to see is a conservative Speaker, that takes a conservative Congress, that puts a strategy to fight and win. And let me give you one example. Everybody thought Hillary Clinton was unbeatable, right?"

“But we put together a Benghazi special committee. A select committee. What are her numbers today? Her numbers are dropping. Why? Because she’s untrustable. But no one would have known that any of that had happened had we not fought to make that happen.”

"Untrustable"

Is that a word?

The fact that this "fact finding inquiry" into the Benghazi attack is the longest investigation in the history of our congress, has not turned up any credible evidence to dispute the original findings of the special commission, and has turned into another politically partisan excursion to cast blame on the opposition party to gain a leg up in the election process, all financed by the taxpayers, is a travesty.

The unfortunate truth about McCarthy is, based upon the choices available for the next Speaker of the House (third in line to the presidency), he is probably the least offensive candidate.

Re: The definition of 'gaffe'

It is interesting to note, that when 241 US servicemembers were killed in the Beirut bombing of 1983, Congress held, I believe, ONE set of hearings to investigate.

Re: The definition of 'gaffe'

I recall when it was looking like Brand-R would get a majority in the House and Senate.  Some jackass exclaimed they would be having hearings 24/7.

Good to know our childish elected representatives, and I use that term ironically, are focused on the well-being of our country instead of playing their stupid, unproductive politicial games.
