I have been hoping that Jeb Bush starts to get it together. But, there's no sign of that happening soon.
Yesterday, Jeb suggested that the GOP could appeal to black voters by insulting them.
Jeb Bush told a crowd in South Carolina on Thursday that Republicans could attract more African-Americans with a message of “hope and aspiration,” and not with promises of “free stuff” — a phrase that echoed comments made by Mitt Romney during and after his 2012 bid for president. The remarks, reported by The Washington Post, came in response to a question from a white man in a largely white crowd in Mount Pleasant, who asked how Mr. Bush planned to appeal to African-Americans.“Our message is one of hope and aspiration,” he said, according to The Post. “It isn’t one of division and get in line and we’ll take care of you with free stuff. Our message is one that is uplifting — that says you can achieve earned success.”
Memo to Gov Bush:
Dear Jeb. You just implied that Blacks vote for democrats to get "Free stuff".
Please note that there are millions and millions of black voters who go out every day and earn their stuff, just like I do, and they overwhelmingly vote for democrats. You will not win their votes by condescending to them by thinking that you need to teach them the work ethic.

These guys just don't get it do they. It's not really that difficult either. Stop insulting your perspective voters.

The problem comes when politicians start actually believing in the caricatures of the other team that they construct.
If you want a sure-fire applause line when speaking before a group of older, white, male, arch conservatives, go ahead and toss out some BS about how the democrats keep the black constituency by passing out free stuff.
But, if you really want to reach out and grow your constituency, you need to learn about the actual concerns of that group of voters.

They are completely removed from the real world but think they can convice people that they understand.
