Is It Time?

Is it time to retire the term "Political Correctness" from the national discourse?

Political correctness is (or once was) defined as,

"(adjectivally, politically correct, commonly abbreviated to PC) is an ordinarily pejorative term used to criticize language, actions, or policies seen as being excessively calculated to not offend or disadvantage any particular group of people in society."

Believe me, I get it. I've been on college campuses long enough to suppress my smirk when a gender studies major starts blathering on.

But, have you noticed that the "PC" dig has been co-opted by some really boorish people.
Nowadays any person who makes bigotted or misogynistic comments will wave criticism away by bragging, "I'm just not PC". Yea, I'm looking at you, Donald.

I see it another way. If you suggest that the majority of immigrants are criminals, if you call a woman reporter a bimbo when you get angry with her, and I criticize you,,,,,,,,
Am I really being PC, or are YOU a being a jerk?

We live in a time in which decent and otherwise sensible people are surrendering too easily to the hectoring of morons or extremists.
