Re: Red Land Little League

I've been watching the games.  That game they played against Texas was one of the most exciting sporting events I ever saw.  Hope they win today and move to the finals tomorrow!

I also watched the game with Texas.  They certainly are terrific players.  Good luck to them.

One complaint.....why were the two team's uniforms so similar?  On our TV you couldn't tell one team from the other.  They were all blue.

Re: Red Land Little League

Unfortunately, I cannot receive ESPN so have been unable to watch any of their games.  After a police escort from Cumberland Co. there's a big parade for them Sunday ending with a big affair at Darenkamp's in Newberry Township.  If I correctly interpreted YDR's report in this morning's paper the parade should pass by my development on rt.177.  I did notice in the evening news sports reports the similar colors and wasn't sure which team they were talking about.  Most unusual for sports team.

I see ABC will televise today's game at 3:30--I'll be watching.

Re: Red Land Little League

Lucky I went to Darenkamp's this afternoon--the parade and big doin's at the Newberrytown shopping center isn't until next Saturday.  Based on the people who have gone to Williamsport to root for the team--in the 30 thousands--they expect about 20,000 at the shopping center next Saturday.

Re: Red Land Little League

A great run by Red Land and they certainly should be proud of their U.S. Championship.

When they put that 10 spot up on Japan in the bottom of the first yesterday, I really thought they had it wrapped up. But I think a combination of tired arms and nerves did them in, particularly in the 6th inning.

Should be noted that they are in the record books for now as the most combined runs in a LLWS championship game. I have a feeling that record will stand for a long time.

Those kids and thier coaches and the community should all be very proud.

Re: Red Land Little League

I think the scoring will continue to rise. The reason: juiced metal bats. The kids don't even have to take a full swing and the ball is jettisoned out of the stadium.

Also, one thing I noticed (not trying to make any excuses), was that a number of the batters not only crowded the plate but had one or both feet outside the batter's box during their swing. According to the rules of baseball, if a batter makes contact with a pitched ball with one or both feet outside the batter's box, the batter is out.

Re: Red Land Little League

The little league rules on time pitchers can pitch caught up with Red Land yesterday.  Yesterday, when they changed pitcher towards the end they had no more pitchers to use so put in one of their catchers.  The poor kid knew he was doing poorly and when a coach went out to talk to him the kid was in tears.  Any way you look at this Red Land team they are record-setting winners and real champions.  These kids could set the standard for some of the major league jerks!

Re: Red Land Little League

I enjoyed the whole thing.  Kids playing baseball for the sheer joy of playing baseball.  i watched several games, and it didn't matter to me who was playing.

One sidenote:  Some of those homeplate umpires had, shall we say, 'creative' strike zones.

I didn't want to bring that up, but yeah you're right. In the top of the second, when Japan hit three HR's in a row, the first two I thought were legit, in terms of them being well hit balls easily cleared the fence.

But the third home run, the pitch was almost in the dirt, the hitter looked like he was trying to check his swing and he just kind of caught the ball off the end of the bat and it sailed out to centerfield.

So yeah, Little League really needs to take a look at that. Not only does it make home runs too easy, but I think it's a safety issue as well.
