Re: Who Supports Trump?

I'm confused, Lager.  You want someone on the Dem side that represents fresh air, a fresh face with a fresh perspective and not part of the establishment on the Dem side, yet you feel Sanders can't take it to the finish line.  So where does that leave us?

Re: Who Supports Trump?

I think that your best chance for an anti-Hillary is a Biden or Kerry run. In other words, very establishment.
Still, I'd like to see Clinton get challenged.  I would vote for her in a general election because the Democratic stands on issues like the environment and guns is more to my liking. And, I believe in science. But I have no liking for Hillary.

BTW, have you seen the latest poll numbers? Clinton has got very high unfavorability ratings. In fact, she's underwater. Sanders can't take her out. He's hanged by the Socialist label (Not saying it's fair).

But, Webb, or Biden might be able to do it.
And, I think Jeb can beat her in the general.

And the way she has campaigned to date? Sheesh.
Run, Joe, Run!

Hey, I'll give a shout out to The Man. I believe in giving credit where it is due. Months ago, the first time that you predicted that Hillary wouldn't win the democratic nomination, I thought that you were crazy. But Clinton sure looks anything but invincible now.

So far I don't think she has felt she has to. All she has to do is win the Decomcratic nod initially. There are almost as many people currently in the Dem bid as the Republican, but I bet most people cannot name more than one or two. And to top that, of the ones that ARE in the run at this point, their campaign presence is almost nill (outside of Sanders and I agree with your sentiment on him).  Here ARE the current people declared: Howell Astor, Morrison Bonpasse, Jeff Boss, Harry Braun, Andy Caffrey, Willie Carter, Lincoln Chaffee, Hillary Clinton, Lloyd Kelso, Martin O'Malley, Bernie Sanders, Doug Shreffler, Michael Steinberg, Jim Webb, Robby Wells, Willie Wilson, and Brad Winslow.

Re: Who Supports Trump?

Anyone know what Trump's qualifications are?

He's a businessman.

The country is not a business.

It's also not a reality show.

The thing with Hillary is, so far she has said virtually nothing, or at least nothing where she hasn't lied and danced around the issue, and her support is seriously dropping.  Once she actually starts talking, her support will drop like a rock.

As for Trump, I hope no rational person actually supports him and actually thinks he has a shot.  I take him for the entertainment value.  The presidential race is usually boring at this time, at least he is talking, and I do like that he says what's on his mind without dancing around the question, as wrong as he may be.  I would vote for him if it were a choice between him and Hillary though, which it won't be.

Re: Who Supports Trump?

Well, Hillary has a 30 point lead and is playing the prevent defense.
She'd be a better candidate if someone got close enough that she actually had to take some stands on issues.

Re: Who Supports Trump?

Well, I just got my 'Bernie 2016' bumper sticker today.  I'm sending him 25 bucks, so I say to the Koch Brothers, " Take that in your shorts boys!  I can play the big money game, too!"

I've been very clear on this. While I like Sanders rhetoric on income inequality, campaign finance reform, climate change and the like, he also is an admitted, practicing socialist. That's the political lable Sanders has put on himself. And the United States of America will not, in 2016, elect a socialist to to the highest office in the land. It just won't.

That's why I don't think he can take his campaign to the finish line. The visions the Hillary people will put out there, once the campaign really gets into high gear, of Russian gulags and Chinese labor camps, and all the other images of socialist regimes throughout the years will scare the living hell out of the people who aren't deep into politics and won't be paying much attention until the primary elections start rolling around.

And I certainly don't think Bernie Sanders is the type of socialist who would advocate for prison camps or gulags. He seems to me to be an economic socialist more than anything. But that will be the picture his opponents in the Democratic Party will paint of him. And that's going to be a very difficult perception for Sanders to overcome.

One final thought..... I think any fair assessment of Barack Obama's presidency, particularly from an economic sense, has been very status quo. Some post recession tweaks to the regulations affecting Wall Street. Certainly some investment made in infrastructure through the Stimulus, although not nearly enough to satisfy liberal economists like Paul Krugman. Overall however, I think Obama has followed general rules of capitalism and largely stayed out of the way.

And he's still been fought every step of the way in Congress and, if you base Cogressional election results from 2012 onward as a marker, he's been fought every step of the way by the voting public as well.

So I just don't see how the math works for a Bernie Sanders presidency, when Sanders is so far left of Obama.

I think you're going to see a lot of different United States of America over the next three, four, or eight years. - President Donald J. Trump

Re: Who Supports Trump?

I hear ya, Lager.  Sanders has been focusing on the dangers and pitfalls associated with plutocratic rule  turning our democracy into an oligarchy.  That's been his message for a long time.  I wish more people could see that and not get turned off by the 'socialist' label.  Very wealthy people should be able to buy more cars, bigger homes, condos in sunny places around the world, etc., but they ought not be able to buy our democracy.

Sanders is the only one in the pile that seems to want to alter the course and get us off the Plutocratic Oligarchy Highway.  We're running out of exits.

Just an observation of the above statement: Russian gulags and Chinese labor camps: How about the fact that the capitalist USA holds more people in prison per capita than anywhere else ?  Isn't it scary that US capitalists jail more people ?
