What ideas of Trump and Sanders do you like?

This is not a bear trap. I really want to know.

Trump hasn't presented any ideas yet, just ranting. I agree with him on immigration, that's it. Illegal immigration is a problem, and most Americans, including Hispanics who have come here legally, feel the same way.

Sanders, I like his thoughts on climate change, campaign finance reform and health care.

Both of them are unelectable for their own very different reasons, we all know that. I'd like to see both of them run on third party tickets.

Either one of them would be much better for our country than Hillary Clinton though. That much is certain.

Don't all of the GOP candidates think that illegal immigration is a problem?
And the Donald, if he isn't presenting any ideas, is really just being more bombastic in his dislike of illegal immigration than the rest.
That''s not a plan.

BTW, Hillary Clinton sure does frost your cupcake! Trump isn't running against her yet, but she keeps creeping into this thread.

Not to pick on you personally. This seems to happen a lot in modern politics. We don't so much present positives about our candidate as we do negatives about his opponent. "Hey, my guy has presented no ideas. But, at least he's not that guy".

Well they should.  ALL citizens of the U.S. should think that illegal immigration is a problem.  The key word being 'Illegal'.  No one has any problem with people immigrating here legally.

I suppose Hillary Clinton does 'frost my cupcake', but not as much as Donald Trump seems to frost yours. ;) I guess it's just human nature to point out the flaws of those you don't agree with and dislike, rather than highlight the attributes of the people you do like.

Re: Go For It, Donald!

So, what makes Trump's plan for illegal immigration more appealing for you than, say, Cruz, Perry, Bush, etc?

I don't know, he hasn't presented any plan to deal with it, and I never said he has, but he does speak the truth about it without mixing words, flip flopping and apologizing.  His words on illegal immigration are correct, as much as the media tries to present them as racist, which they are not, he's right.

Re: Go For It, Donald!

How come nobody is focusing on the people that employ illegal immigrants?  Could it be that some employers and/or corporations actually profit by employing people who would keep quiet, work for peanuts, and employers don't have to worry about paying workman's compensation, and provide benefits for them.

If we came down hard on employers that hire illegals, I believe we would see the number of illegal immigrants shrink considerably.  Does anyone take in consideration why they come here in the first place, and why they get hired?  Sanders is the only one who has brought this up.  Does anyone know if any of the other candidates have addressed illegal immigration from that angle?

Good point Fred, I'm waiting for a politician to seriously tackle illegal immigration.  And simply giving them legal status, like some politicians want to do, is a poor answer.

Actually, the Donald does seem to backing up his rhetoric (AKA as "flip flopping")

What is Trump's actual position on illegal immigration?
http://www.cnn.com/2015/07/24/politics/trump-illegal-immigration-inconsistent/index.html

(CNN)Donald Trump rose to the top of the GOP presidential field by harnessing the anger of many conservative Republicans about illegal immigration. But he has softened his tone in recent days -- going so far as to say that he would favor a "merit-based system" for undocumented immigrants in the U.S.

After weeks of criticism over the harsh tone of his presidential campaign announcement -- where he claimed that Mexican immigrants were bringing drugs and crime to the U.S., and calling some of them rapists -- Trump seems to be edging toward a more moderate position.

On the campaign trail in recent weeks, Trump has shed little light on his actual plans for dealing with illegal immigration beyond generalizations that have often seemed far-fetched. Initially, he said he would build a wall and make Mexico pay for it. On Thursday, during a visit to the U.S.-Mexico border, he seemed to reverse course under questioning by CNN's Dana Bash.

"In certain sections, you have to have a wall," he said.

His position on immigration -- which has been a huge part of his appeal among conservative voters nationally -- grew even more muddled Friday when he highlighted his support for a "merit-based system" for the 11 million undocumented immigrants in the U.S.

As for "speaking the truth. What do you find especially truthful about his remarks?
Trump says he has evidence that the Mexican government is sending criminals to the US. But, he hasn't shared that proof with us.

Trump said that the majority of illegal immigrants are rapists or drug runners, even though the data says otherwise.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-fix/wp/2015/07/02/surprise-donald-trump-is-wrong-about-immigrants-and-crime/

Trump said he had proof that Obama's birth certificate was a fraud. But he never released it.

So, does Trump really speak the truth or does he just lie boldly?

Re: Go For It, Donald!

It is easy to locate who might be illegal aliens--look around at employees of some lawn service companies working outdoors this time of year.

Re: Go For It, Donald!

To paraphrase from a recent newspaper column, Tump is a bit like Teddy Roosevelt.  All he needs is a stocky steed and a few animal trophies to hang in his White House and he would be viewed as a strutting, cocky, loudmouthed, bloodthirsty showoff.  Frankly, without the horse and trophies that is exactly how I view Trump now.  Continuing that paraphrase, if Trump can whip his speak-first-think-later impulse into sunmission, good for the republic, but terrible for journalism and tv ratings.

Re: Go For It, Donald!

I watched some of the Arizona speech.
What amazed me is the 2 ideas I heard from Trump, which got some applause from the crowd eventhough they are not your typical conservative ideas, more like a "left" ideas.

#1 Ford building a $2 billion dollar plant in Mexico - Trump says we should tax them at 35% for cars shipped to the US
#2 Single payer healthcare - Trump says, "Come on people we need to take care of everyone"

I guess it all depends on the messenger, they will applaud just because he says it.

Re: Go For It, Donald!

The best protection for the US border doesn't lay in a wall, it is in a robust Mexican economy.
-Goose

Isn't this the responsibility of the Mexican government?

If we intervened what form would it take?

And how long would it take?
