Just to be clear CT, my sarcasm was not aimed at you.
It's just ironic. In 2015 America, you must clearly state, even argue, what should be intuitively obvious to all.
Armed, untrained, individuals taking upon themselves the mantle of law enforcment in a completely uncoordinated fashion is a really bad idea.
We really are a nation of idiots. ( Excepting, of course, those of us on the Exchange). 
We live in a time in which decent and otherwise sensible people are surrendering too easily to the hectoring of morons or extremists.

And this started me thinking about that quote that An armed society is a polite society.
I would like to politely disagree.
An armed society is a fearful society. This is not the same thing as politeness.
And people who live in a constant state of fear eventually crack.
And then the polite society is a significantly reduced society.
IMO
If you make yourself miserable trying to make others happy that means everyone is miserable.
