Is it possible to use a line-item veto, or is the whole thing a mess in the gov's eyes?

Secondly, compromise is not always possible in certain situations.  For example:   If I propose you should jump across a 10 foot cavern and you don't think it's a good idea, should you compromise and say, "Ok, I'll compromise and jump 5 feet"?

Line-item vetoing is always possible.  Wolf is the first governor in decades to veto an entire budget.  I think the legislature made some very good proposals, namely selling off the state liquor stores, which gets bi-partisan support, and reforming the state employee pension system, which desperately needs to be done if we're ever going to cut costs (no, borrowing money is not the answer).  Wolf just says no, and won't even offer an alternative of his own that doesn't include hiking our taxes.  To me that's unacceptable.  And let's not forget, Wolf's budget proposal was shot down unanimously with a 193-0 vote.  He's not going to get everything that he wants.  He has to know that.

I will agree with him though that the governor needs to compromise as well as the legislature.  By vetoing the entire budget, rather than line-item vetoing, the governor seems to be sending the message that it's his way or the highway, he will not compromise.  We didn't vote for that, and if that's how he is going to be, he should find another line of work.

Hey, they don't work much, so they do have plenty of time to answer emails! Ha!

Most of the responses from elected officials that I've gotten seem like a cut and paste response.  At least it looks like he actually read your email.  That camera response though, what is that guy doing representing us?

I think this story is a bit more complicated, Man.  I think Lager addressed this sometime before on this catagory header.  I forget which starter thread he posted the facts and reasons why it happened.  I'll see if I can find it.

Found it:  Post #5 under the heading "House votes no 193-0 on wolf's Budget Plan" - 6/5/2015

Seriously Ron?

He sends you a reply that is nothing but spin complaining about the media doing the same thing?

I don't understand the logic though, although this is our state legislature, so there probably is no logic.  Vote against a budget that they support, because of what the republicans are doing? That makes zero sense to me.

Regardless, Tom Wolf does not have a mandate, neither does our legislature.  They are going to have to negotiate and meet in the middle.  Neither side is going to get everything that they want.  What I think is pathetic is that they wait until the budget is 22 days over due until they sit down and start negotiating.  They should have started negotiating and discussing back in March.  In the real world, if I, or anyone, is late like that in getting their work done, I'm fired, or at the very least I don't get a pay raise.  It is sad that we don't hold our governor and legislature, our employees, to that same standard.

Pretty much what I said attached to his response.
