BTW, can anybody give me a rough estimate on the number of "mass shootings" that have been prevented, or stopped in progress by a citizen who happened to be carrying a loaded assault rifle in a Walmart or a Chipotles.

Guess not.

I'll make it easier. How many lives have been saved by the guy in Georgia, who walked into a park where kids were playing baseball  and yelled, “Look, I got a gun!” “There’s nothing you can do about it.”?

We live in a time in which decent and otherwise sensible people are surrendering too easily to the hectoring of morons or extremists.

Re: Guns In Your Face

Isreali schoolteachers are treated with respect, and only a madman would consider their schools to be a defenseless, target-rich environment.

A madman doesn't think clearly in the first place, Tarnation, so I don't think it matters to them.  A sociopath doesn't take the consequences of their actions into account before they do something crazy.  That's why we call them madmen.

Are you suggesting teachers are treated with respect because they are carrying a weapon?  As an aside, I taught high school students and I can tell you if all my colleagues came to work packing heat I'd find another place to work.  Think back on your high school days and picture some of the teachers that taught you carrying a loaded weapons around the school.  You'd trust all of them with a gun in the classroom?  Yikes!

Re: Guns In Your Face

You know, a fact that continues to be lost here is that the thread was about some pretty unserious, irresponsible folks brandishing guns for what seems the sole purpose of taunting law enforcement and others.
It really has nothing to do with preventing school shootings, or protecting "target rich environments"..

I would have thought that gun rights advocates would be the first to condemn the irresponsible.
But, I am obviously wrong.

Those knuckleheads were irresponsible, did nothing to advance their cause, and did much harm to many persons understanding of the 2nd amendment.

It's people treating guns like they're toys.

Like they're harmless.

This is exactly the kind of person who shouldn't be anywhere near a DEADLY WEAPON

Guns don't kill people.  People with guns kill people.

Re: Guns In Your Face

From WGAL8 news:

3 year old shoots mother in foot.

YORK, Pa. -
Police in York say a three-year-old boy picked up a loaded gun and shot his mother.

Authorities say the firearm was unsecured when the child picked it up and accidentally shot his mother, 22-year-old Jade Sympton, just before noon on Monday.

It happened on the 1400 block of Devers Street.

Sympton received a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the foot.

No charges have been filed.

There are a lot of snarky things you could say about this incident, but who the heck leaves an unsecured loaded gun laying around that a child may stumble upon?

This is sad, and unfortunately way too common.  Gun ownership should have background checks and mandatory gun safety courses in order to own a gun.  I'm not just picking on gun ownership either.  I think the right to vote should have mandatory voter education classes and voter identification as well.

At a guess, the same kind of person that shows up a a fast food restaurant with an assault rifle.
