Mass shootings in the target rich environment afforded by "gun free zones".
People believing that "no weapons" stickers on windows will protect them.
That is madness, and it has diagonstic name:
Delusional.

Ok, I'll engage in the discussion. I propose we, as a nation, begin by putting an end to the sale and distribution of weaponry deemed to be too powerful, too lethal, and too dangerous to be owned and carried around by the citizenry of this nation. Granted, it is not a cure-all for 'stupid'........like the guy who blew a hole in his shorts at a wedding, or the 3 year-old who took his mom's pistol from her purse and blew his face off, etc., but we need to find a way to limit the carnage caused by stupid and/or irrational, sociopathic behavior.
Example: We cannot prevent irresponsible behavior involving the use of automobiles, but things like seat beats, air bags, speed limits, traffic lights and laws have had an impact on auto-related death rates. I don't think we should be afraid to address the issue of gun control. I'm not proposing a ban on guns just like I would not ban automobiles because people have been killed using cars.

Have you read the essay that the thread is based on?
Let's refresh our memories:
“Look, I got a gun!” yelled a man who walked into a park where kids were playing baseball in — yes! — Georgia. “There’s nothing you can do about it.”
No one was criticizing any citizen preventing mass shootings by being discretely armed.
And the author wasn't advocating disarming people.
She wasn't advocating gun free zones, or stickers that say "No Guns".
She was, however, expressing disapproval of Nuts who were going into airports, parks and a public library brandishing weapons and taunting people.
I happen to disapprove as well. And I'm not delusional.
Why must it always be one extreme or another?
Why, if you object to a guy carrying an assault rifle around and taunting, is the assumption made that you are against gun ownership? Why does this discussion have no sensible middle?

BTW, can anybody give me a rough estimate on the number of "mass shootings" that have been prevented, or stopped in progress by a citizen who happened to be carrying a loaded assault rifle in a Walmart or a Chipotles.
But, you may be right, Tarnation.
I'd feel way safer knowing that guys like these were there, just in case.

Where have you been, Fred?
One thing I've learned from the gun debate is that, while it is possible to make driving safer, flying safer, appliances safer, food safer, water cleaner, buildings safer, drugs and medical treatments safer, sports safer, boating safer,,,,,
there's just nothing you could ever do to address the dangers from firearms.
Nope, it's just impossible. Can't be done.

It's really both frustrating and puzzling to me.

Isreali schoolteachers are treated with respect, and only a madman would consider their schools to be a defenseless, target-rich environment.
