Shut it Down, Kids

Police in Overton, Texas abruptly shut down a lemonade stand and demanded two sisters, aged 7 and 8, obtain a $150 permit, according to ABC affiliate KLTV.“We were trying to raise some money so we could take our dad to Splash Kingdom,” Andria and Zoey Green said. They needed to raise $105 for the trip, which was supposed to be a gift for Father’s Day.In about an hour the girls managed to raise roughly $25 until the Overton Police Department approached, telling the girls they needed a $150 peddler’s permit. After waiving the permit, they cited a Texas bill that doesn’t allow for the sale of food that can spoil because it requires time or temperature control.

Well, at least they didn't pull a gun.

Re: Shut it Down, Kids

Thank goodness the government is keeping us safe from small children.

Dont' they have anything better to do?

Is it me, or do a disproportionate number of bizarre stories come from the state of Texas?

We live in a time in which decent and otherwise sensible people are surrendering too easily to the hectoring of morons or extremists.

Re: Shut it Down, Kids

This is just the first step leading down that slippery slope. First these jack booted government thugs came for these kids' lemonade. Next they'll come to confiscate their guns. It's time to strike down the abusive government intrusive age restrictions on concealed carry permits. I guarantee, if these girls were packing heat, this blatant government take down would not have gone so easily. Where the heck is the NRA on this government overreach?

Ooooooh, that's right . . . they're preoccupied with the IRS investigation into their finances. A higher priority blatant government attack on private citizens.

Re: Shut it Down, Kids

When you were a child how many of you ever had a similar stand or knew of someone who did?  Did the police or other authority ever even notice?

Re: Shut it Down, Kids

What I'm finding most perplexing is this:

Why are they even interested?

They had to know that something like this would be all over the country in a matter of hours and they'll look like jack-booted thugs.

Why?
