"Climate change ranked last on a list of 20 concerns likely Iowa Republican voters want presidential candidates to talk about, according to a poll released Tuesday"
But most Republican candidates question the conclusion that humans are the primary causes of global warming. Some, such as likely candidate and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, have said climate change is occurring, but how much humans contribute to that is unknown.Environmental groups are trying to make climate change a wedge issue in the 2016 election by raising its profile to sway otherwise-reluctant candidates. While it is a low priority for Republican caucus-goers, 81 percent of Democrats said they want to hear candidates discuss it.
But the poll suggests that GOP candidates might ignore the topic altogether.

Which is exactly why they have been almost to the man (and woman).
One of them eventually WILL have to take a conrete stance on the issue once just one of them is remaining standing.

I would expect that GOP candidates could easily skip the issue of climate change in Iowa (or mention it only to ridicule "east coast" elites).
The issue of climate change isn't an overriding one nationally either.
But I don't think that candidates can skip it in the general election as the battleground will be over a relatively small group of independent voters. These voters care a bit more about the issue than does the GOP base.
At the very least, the GOP nominee can only ridicule the issue of climate change at the risk of seeming to be anti-science, or sophisticated. The issue may not rank in the top toer of concerns for people, but they don't want a President who seems uneducated.

Number One rule when considering whether or not I vote for someone:
1. I will never vote for someone who I'm pretty sure is dumber than me.

I'm not surprised the climate change isn't a concern of the prairie. All the people in those state are concerned with is the price of wheat and corn and little else.

"The Best and the Brightest" sure isn't going to sell with the base in Iowa.

Ha! Maybe I did, but I'm sticking to my guns on this one. That's my number one priority. If I sense they are smarter than me, I look at their platform. If I sense one of them is dumber than me, I thin the herd and move on.
