Re: U.S. gun manufacturing soars as Americans worry about security

I can understand someone having a passion for guns as mechanical works of art, and collecting them as a hobby, much like people have a passion for watches, and shooting targets at a range or hunting can be a fun pastime.

I cannot understand why anyone would have a problem with background checks and mental health evaluations in order to own a gun.  They are potentially lethal weapons.

Some people think Obama will take away Americans' right to own guns, which is completely unfounded.  They'd have to repeal the second amendment for that to happen, and that isn't going to happen.

I agree with you. I have a beautiful 12 gauge that I occasionally shoot clays with. And my brother has a couple hand guns he has collected.  But, I have no problem with commonsense safety regs, and I just don't get the radicals on this.

Obama really ignored the issue of guns for his entire first term, until the Sandy Hook massacre. After that he has made some efforts to get needed legislation passed. But, he seems to have lost interest lately. The paranoia about him is completely unfounded.

We live in a time in which decent and otherwise sensible people are surrendering too easily to the hectoring of morons or extremists.

Yeah I don't even have a problem with concealed carry, or open carry, as long as it is verified that the people doing it don't have mental issues or past violent felonies.  I welcome it, as long as I know guns aren't just being allowed to anyone who breathes air.
