Re: Confirmed – Freddie Gray’s Knife WAS Illegal

I think that how Gray was treated while in custody is the key issue of this thing.
I have noticed that a lot of press coverage has focused on the "negligence" of not putting gray in a seat belt.
As if being unrestrained is the begining and end of this thing.

This got me thinking. Really, being unrestrained in the car is only part of the story. We've all ridden in a car without a seat belt on. Heck, if like me you were  little kid in the 1960s, and your parents took a long trip, you probably took a few rides unrestrianed, lying down, in the back of a Ford Country Squire station wagon. And we all got thru it just fine, because Dad didn't wreck the car.

So, we know that the police van wasn't involved in an accident (At least nobody on the police force has claimed that). Then, what happened? Did somebody put this van thru some violent turns and stops?
Just being unbelted doesn't explain this.

You do understand that what you have just constructed in your own mind if there is a lack of evidence of then such dangerous driving (IF that comes out to be the case) is actually enough "reasonable doubt" to not convict anyone on the homicide charge.

Obviously neither you or I know at this point what evidence is awaiting to be presented at the trial, but all the defense needs to do is use things exactly like this to make their points. Not sure what they will do for their defense case, but this certainly could be one of them.

I wasn't thinking along the lines of what might be the outcome at a trial.
Just pondering what happened to Freddie Gray. Cervical spines don't just snap while riding down a Baltimore street. Regardless of what might go down at trial, I'd like to ascertain what sort of abuse Gray suffered and have police not do it again.

Re: Confirmed – Freddie Gray’s Knife WAS Illegal

I just found this story. Another screw-up with this case. Amazing........

Freddie Gray arrest documents drawn up for wrong people

The Baltimore Sheriff's Office, which assisted the Baltimore State's Attorney's Office in charging the officers, declined to comment and referred questions to prosecutors, who could not immediately be reached.
"In light of the violence and emotion our city has seen, to not send someone out and tell her, 'Hey, we issued a warrant for you by mistake' is unreal," Eldridge said.

Kind of a BIG screwup for those individuals whose name/addresses were mixed up. I would hope (but had not seen this till now) that the prosecutors office made sure that ALL the media broadcasted this mistake so none of the people who were wrongly cited would have had real threatening actions taken against them.
