Dr. Oz: "We will not be silenced"
Dr. Mehmet Oz is responding to critics who say he lacks integrity and credibility as a physician and promotes "quack treatments" for financial gain. A group of 10 doctors sent a letter last week calling on Columbia University to remove America's favorite TV doctor from the school's faculty.
Dr Oz responded:
This month we celebrate my one-thousandth show, and I know I've irritated some potential allies in our quest to make America healthy," Oz said in the video clip released to the press. "No matter our disagreements, freedom of speech is the most fundamental right we have as Americans, and these 10 doctors are trying to silence that right. So I vow to you right here, right now: We will not be silenced; we will not give in."

Freedom of speech is fine, but in a position like that you can't disseminate false information. Geez.
How about you go to a doctor and the doctor says, "Here, take this stuff and you'll be fine." Well, you get horribly sick or worse and the doctor says, "This is America and I'm just exercising my right to free speech."
Can't believe the guy is that stupid.

First, I find it quite interesting that Dr. Oz should refer to himself with the royal "we" (AKA the "majestic plural").
This reveals the exaggerated ideal of self importance typical of the megalomaniac.
Oz is quite skilled in manipulation, however. In reality, this is not a free speech issue. No one is calling for Oz to be arrested. No one is calling for show to be cancelled. No one is saying that Oz cannot say whatever he believes. What they are saying is that, when over half of the recomendations you make as a doctor are not supported by medical science, maybe you shouldn't be on the Columbia faculty.
Scary that he his such a skilled profiteer that he even has Columbia calling this an "academic freedom" issue, when it's pure quackery for money.

I stopped watching Oz several years ago after becoming suspicious of many of his on air recommendations. He's a quack and should not be allowed to express his non-proven snake oils medication on television as a physician. Who doesn't want to believe what their doctor prescribes or suggests and therein lies the problem with that show. As a physician he is believed by many viewers of which he has thousands and thousands. The FDA should step in and tell him that if he cannot provide empirical evidence of the validity for the products he's pushing on his show then he must discontinue them. BTW--who in their right mind would allow this quack to perform heart surgery?

Reminds me of those tele-evangelist hucksters. Same approach .......... different product.

Yeah, that is how he seems to come off now to me also. I thought at one time (quite a few years back) he was not like this, but as time went by he seemed to change and I lost total interest in his show.
While I do not think of him as a quack, I just lost interest as the style of his show seemed to change. I am sure some of his info is actually good. Just too much other "stuff" that made me skeptical.
The following that Dr Oz said kind of wraps up what I believe is the problem in that TV shows like his are about entertainment and ratings.
"I want folks to realize that I'm a doctor, and I'm coming into their lives to be supportive of them. But it's not a medical show," he added.
"The purpose is not to throw you at you the biggest articles published by doctors that week. Frankly it's not very much fun to listen to [those], either"

Exactly my thoughts as I was writing my post earlier today. Unfortunately, as did most of those tele-evangalists, Oz is raking in the money just as they did under they guise of false truths. Maybe he'll eventually go down in shame as did many before him. I wonder sometimes what Oprah thinks of Oz now. His show is a offshoot of regular appearances on Oprah.
