Trump Pulls Another One Out Of His Butt

Just days after claiming that "many" furloughed government workers told him they're fine with not getting paid so long as he secures additional funding for a border wall, President Donald Trump tweeted Thursday morning that "most of the people not getting paid are Democrats."

Trump, who offered no support for his claim, fired off the tweet early Thursday morning as the government shutdown entered its sixth day. Trump said on Christmas Day he will not reopen the government until he gets $5 billion in funding for a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Another whopper:

During a holiday visit to troops stationed in Iraq, President Donald Trump bragged that he had secured them not only their first pay raise in over a decade, but "one of the biggest" ever.

This is inaccurate and not the first time Trump has made false claims about annual military raises.

Another Whopper:

After partly shutting down the government over a lack of funding for a U.S.-Mexico border wall, President Donald Trump has been tweeting extensively over the holiday season in defense of the controversial structure. In one such tweet, Trump suggested that former President Barack Obama had erected a 10-foot wall around his Washington home for “safety and security.” The U.S., Trump said, “needs the same thing” — only “slightly larger.

Neighbors of the Obamas have since refuted Trump’s claim. One neighbor, described as a longtime resident of the Kalorama neighborhood where the former first couple now lives, told The Washington Post on Monday that Trump “has a very active imagination.”

“There’s a fence that goes along the front of the house, but it’s the same as the other neighbors have,” the neighbor said. “It’s tastefully done.”

Re: Trump Pulls Another One Out Of His Butt

Fred, this may be difficult to believe, but the lying will get worse in 2019.

There are now over a dozen investigations into Trump’s various scandals.
2019 will be a year in which Donald Trump is isolated, and thus unrestrained as never before. And it will be in this atmosphere that indictments will fall, provoking not just a political crisis but a constitutional one.

Trump doesn’t recognize, understand or respect institutional authority. He only understands personal power. He sees every conflict as a personal conflict in which he destroys or gets destroyed.

When the indictments come down, Trump won’t play by the rules. He’ll delegitimize those rules. He’ll delegitimize our legal institutions. He’ll personalize indictments, slander every prosecutor. He’ll destroy the edifice of law in order to save himself.

If we lived in a healthy society, the ensuing indictments would be handled in a serious way — somber congressional hearings, dispassionate court proceedings.

But we don’t live in a healthy society and we don’t have a healthy president.
Will the constitution, and the rule of law hold?

I honestly do not know.

We live in a time in which decent and otherwise sensible people are surrendering too easily to the hectoring of morons or extremists.

Re: Trump Pulls Another One Out Of His Butt

I use fact-checking sites periodically to verify or refute Trump's statements.  Here's something quite revealing:  Since taking office, Trump has registered 7545 false and/or misleading statements.
