Just a Thought

President Trump made some remarks about the Texas shooting. In those remarks he said that mass shootings in this country have “been going on for far too many years, too many decades“.

Right wingers have seized upon these remarks  for political advantage. They are saying “what about Obama. What about Clinton?  They didn’t fix the problem either“.
Well, this little garbled piece of history neglects the shameful role of a Republicans in Congress over those decades.

But, no matter.  In the unlikely event these people are looking for more than somebody to blame this on and actually want to fix the problem,  I’m reminded of an old saying: “The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is right now.“
So, let’s  get going right now and fix this problem. .

Re: Just a Thought

The tide is slowly turning and it IS WAY PAST TIME for reform.

Anyone thinking the 2nd Amendment is going away is delusional. But we DO need serious changes to help cut down on many of these atrocities that could have been either prevented or have had their carnage reduced.

We can never make a perfectly safe environment, but we can drastically improve on what we currently have.

Re: Just a Thought

Agreed, Tenny, and lets start with serious gun reform, not this 'thoughts and prayers' bullshit.

Re: Just a Thought

I noticed on right wing media that they’re making a big deal out of the fact that this killer used a shotgun and a revolver. They seem to think that is some great victory because the gun control people have talked a lot about assault rifles.

Perhaps they should examine their own preconceived ideas. Let’s take the myth of the good guy with the gun. It’s noteworthy that there were two armed law enforcement officers on campus at the time of the shooting. Yet a completely untrained teenager was able to kill 10 people before he could be apprehended. So much for the magic of a good guy with a gun
