Jim Jordan — U.S. representative & conspiracy theorist

If you’ve never seen or heard Jim Jordan before you’d probably think he is a reporter for Alex Jones’ InfoWars. But, in reality, Jordan is a republican member of the U.S. House of Representative and very active member of the so-called “freedom caucus”. Jordan regularly appears on various Fox “news” shows spouting out unverified irresponsible made up stories and partisan alt-right conspiracy theories. This is just another example:

Trump Tricked Into Obstruction Of Justice By Firing Comey, According to GOP Congressman's Conspiracy Theory

Republican Representative Jim Jordan has come up with another conspiracy theory for special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia probe. Jordan alleged that deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein, who is overseeing the investigation, plotted for President Donald Trump to fire former FBI Director James Comey to trick Trump into possibly obstructing justice. Jordan suggested that Rosenstein’s motive was to appoint a special counsel who would probe Trump for obstruction of justice.

The Ohio Congressman explained his theory on MSNBC Friday, when host Katy Tur asked for his thoughts on Trump pardoning Scooter Libby, a former chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney who was convicted of obstruction of justice and perjury around the disclosure of a CIA agent’s identity.

“Do you think that it looks a little bit suspicious for the president to pardon somebody who was convicted of lying to the FBI and obstruction of justice when all this stuff is going on?” Tur asked.

“I will tell you what looks strange, or to use your words, suspicious. What looks strange is when Rod Rosenstein writes the memo on why you should fire James Comey, James Comey then leaks a document to create momentum for Bob Mueller to be the special counsel, Rod Rosenstein gets Mueller to be the special counsel, and one of the things that Mueller is looking into is, was there obstruction of justice in the firing of James Comey,” Jordan replied.

“If that’s not the swamp and suspicious and strange, I don’t know what is,” Jordan said. “So there is lots of strange things happening in this town, but I don’t see anything more strange than that scenario I just went through.”

Jordan previously claimed it was not the Trump campaign, but that of his opponent Hillary Clinton who colluded with Russia in the 2016 presidential election, by paying for a salacious dossier intended to embarrass Trump.

After the FBI on Monday raided the office of Michael Cohen, Trump’s personal lawyer, the president said friends had suggested that he fire Mueller. Trump reportedly is also considering firing Rosenstein.

You know, you gotta stay up late at night with a glass of wine or two to come up with this stuff.  Among us are several people who evidently are bent on morphing democracy into some kind of authoritarian rule controlled by a few very wealthy oligarchs.  We've seen this scenerio play out over and over again throughout human history, and it never ends well.

Amazing how eagerly a US Congressman debases himself and shreds his credibility in the service of such a loathsome man as Donald Trump.

We live in a time in which decent and otherwise sensible people are surrendering too easily to the hectoring of morons or extremists.
