I've been thinking. It sure does take a lot to be a Trumper.
You have to be willing to believe that a free Press is fake news and something to ban;
That victims of sexual assault are liars;
The DOJ is corrupt;
The FBI is as well;
All the world's scientists are involved in a global conspiracy;
That immigrants are to be feared;
That we must heavily arm ourselves against our neighbors and our government.
You have to mock the religion of Mitt Romney.
Deny the heroism of John McCain.
Trash anybody who says anything that sounds like dissent.
Want to lock up political opponents.
That you , your religion, and your racial identity are under siege in your homes from people who are different from you.
You have to set aside your morals and vote for Roy Moore.
And the only person that you can trust is a narcissistic real estate developer who says half a dozen demonstrably untrue things every day.
I feel sorry for them. What a dark place in which to live .

You pretty much have described a 'cult' mentality. The Republican Party has essentially turned into a cult, and the leader of that cult is, of course, Donald Trump.
Consider any authoritarian leader past or present. There are several examples, but authoritarians need to establish themselves among cult followers, otherwise they wouldn't have power. Cult-like leadership isn't necessarily good or bad in itself and they run across a broad spectrum. You could make the argument that Jesus was a leader, but so was Charles Manson. The bottomline line is cult-like leadership is powerless without devoted followers. Jesus stood for those things that would make the world a better place, Charles Manson others like him were simply drunk with power.
I think that's where we are today. Failing to question, think independently and critically, or challenge authority is the fault of the followers.

Goose's recap kind of says it all. A sad lot.
