Anyone else see a problem with this?

I've noticed some media outlets, congressmen, and even the president, are hailing the guy and his neighbor who shot at the perpetrator of the Texas church massacre as heroes.

I don't think it's a good idea to encourage 'law-abiding citizens' to take the law into their own hands and start blasting at people who they think are villains, criminals, etc.  What happens someday when a gun-toting 'law-abiding' citizen blows away an innocent person or a bystander?  I think it's a real bad idea for people deciding to be judge, jury, and executioner.

What do you think, or am I alone in this thought?

I can see it both ways, but in general believe it is best left to the professionals who are trained to respond.

I think that encouraging vigilante justice goes against most tenets of an organized society.

Think about the police responding to a reported shooter incident and, upon arrival, notice a dozen or so people brandishing, or possibly shooting, weapons. How do the law enforcement personnel determine who is the actual shooter and who are the armed “good samaritans”?

I can see this situation coming to fruition which will result in a lot of finger pointing and blame as more innocents are killed by crazed shooters, law enforcement personnel, and armed and engaged “good samaritans”.

If this happens, we could easily slip into armed civilian anarchy.

Yea, vigilantism is being celebrated as the solution to mass shootings. Despite the obvious reality that the Texas shooting was another unmitigated disaster.
All lies and jests, still a man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest.

With 26 people dead, and 450 rounds fired, one could hardly call this the solution to mass shootings.

But, that is exactly what the President and republicans are doing.
The Good guy with a gun myth.

Untrained civilians who happen to be on the scene with a firearm are the last resort.
But, the gun nuts are holding it up as Plan A.
They are telling us, "The government is going to do nothing. Your best hope is to be ready at all times to engage in a pitched battle with a mad man armed with an AR-15,,,,,,,, at the movies, shopping, at your kids' school,,, in your church."

And, if  I carry an AR-15 to keep me safe, then so does the guy down the block, and his crazy kid, and,,, and,,
What has america become, a Mad max movie?

We live in a time in which decent and otherwise sensible people are surrendering too easily to the hectoring of morons or extremists.
