Trump’s doublespeak vs. his actions

Hey, didn’t you ever hear the expression: “do as I say, not as I do”?

We’re building that wall (you know, the one Mexico is going to pay for) to keep foreigners out of the country, and prevent them from taking jobs from American citizens.

That is, unless you have a hotel that needs wait staff, cleaning people, groundskeepers, etc., or if you have a construction project that hires contractors and workers from out of the country to keep costs down.

Trump Gets Visas For 70 Foreign Workers At Mar-a-Lago Despite 'Hire American' Pledge

The Trump Organization has secured visas to hire 70 foreign workers who will be employed during the 2017-18 season as maids, cooks, and servers.

Despite running on an ‘American jobs’ ticket, Trump’s former company – which is currently run by his sons Donald Jr. and Eric – has opted to take on foreign labor at the president’s Mar-a-Lago resort, which is dubbed the ‘Winter White House.’

Trump has previously defended hiring workers from outside the U.S., stating back in 2016 when he was questioned by Senator Marco Rubio about hiring foreign labor: “It’s very, very hard to get people. Other hotels do the exact same thing.”

Indeed, the number of visas issued for foreign workers at Mar-a-Lago has increased this year, up from 64 workers during the 2016-17 winter season, despite the president’s “buy American, hire American” pledge.

Indeed, signing an executive order in April on the very topic of protecting American jobs, Trump stated: “It's America first, you better believe it. It's time. It's time, right?,” also promising to “aggressively promote and use American-made goods and to ensure that American labor is hired to do the job."

And although the president has previously argued it is difficult to find workers to staff his exclusive Mar-a-Lago resort, nonprofit job placement agency CareerSource Palm Beach County said there were plenty of workers based inside the U.S. who could take on the roles.

"We currently have 5,136 qualified candidates in Palm Beach County for various hospitality positions listed in the Employ Florida state jobs database," CareerSource spokesman Tom Veenstra told the Palm Beach Post.

But Mar-a-Lago is not alone in hiring foreign workers to staff resort properties, with employers in the Palm Beach area where Trump’s exclusive club is based permitted to hire 2,159 foreign workers for temporary jobs over winter; with a strong local economy suggesting there is a need to outsource jobs to foreign workers.

The Grifter in Chief.

We live in a time in which decent and otherwise sensible people are surrendering too easily to the hectoring of morons or extremists.
