We live in a time in which decent and otherwise sensible people are surrendering too easily to the hectoring of morons or extremists.

Ok, time out. If the goal is to establish a fascist, authoritarian regime, then you HAVE TO demean and squash the press. This is very, very important to the conversion of a democracy to a fascist state. The press MUST be controlled.

You mean like this?
At about the 1:14 mark Sarah Huckabee scolds a reporter for pointing out that Chief of Staff Kelly may have made inaccurate remarks about Congresswoman Wilson.
Huckabee points out that Kelly is "A four star marine general" and makes the incredible statement that it is "Highly Inappropriate" for us lowly masses to even question him.

After that exchange at the ‘press conference’ Sarah had the Thought Police pick up that reporter and had him sent to a re-education camp. The Ministry of Love will oversee the re-education of the reporter utilizing various brainwashing techniques. He will no longer be capable of interrupting or questioning Sarah Huckabee Sander’s Newspeak and Doublethink at the daily ‘press briefing’. All will be well once again in Oceania.

It's highly inappropriate to question a general, because everything that anybody in uniform says is 100% true and proper. We underlings need to know our place.
BTW, wasn't Michael Flynn a general?
