In reality, the United States has average or below average taxes compared to similar economies.
The Pultizer Prize-winning fact-checking site Politifact.com calls the President's assertion, which he has been making for a couple of years now, "one of his most repeated falsehoods."
Regardless of how you measure the tax burden, the President's claim is not borne out by the facts.
We live in a time in which decent and otherwise sensible people are surrendering too easily to the hectoring of morons or extremists.

The fault lies not in our stars but in ourselves.
Trump did not create uninformed, angry, idiot America.
He merely exploited ignorance, bigotry, and fear for his own purposes.
His primary "contribution" has been to bottom feed off the worst of our nature, much to the confusion and terror of our friends, and the comfort of our enemies.
These are the times that try men's souls.
