Trump's First Pardon

Joe Arpaio

He received a court order in 2011 stopping him from detaining people based on suspicions they were undocumented immigrants. The Justice Department accused him of "unfairly targeting Latinos for detention and arrest and retaliating against those who complain," per the NYT. He kept inmates in an extension of the Maricopa County jail known as "Tent City," where prisoners were forced to wear pink underwear. He once called it a "concentration camp."

Was convicted of criminal contempt of court for ignoring a judge’s order to stop detaining people because he merely suspected them of being undocumented immigrants.

He was accused of failing to fully investigate "more than 400 sex-crimes" that mostly involved children and were filed by illegal immigrants, the NYT reported.

In 2015, the Guardian reported that officials settled a lawsuit accusing Arpaio of botching the investigation into a rape of a 13-year-old girl.

Cost Taxpayers in his county $70 million from racial profiling cases.

Held several press conferences in which he claimed that President Obama's birth certificate was fraudulent.

Even sent a deputy to Hawai to check out the birth certificate.

A Federal Judge twice ruled that medical care is so deficient in Arpaio's jails as to be "unconstitutional."

Arpaio then employed a private investigator to investigate the judge.

Once, as a publicity stunt, he marched Latino prisoners into a segregated area with electric fencing.

He arrested New Times reporters for covering him. County Taxpayers shelled out a $3.75 million settlement for that one.

He framed a man for a phony murder plot against himself. That suit cost taxpayers a cool million.

He attempted to destroy hard drives ordered turned over to the court.

Taxpayers shelled out $10 million in a suit where Arpaio's guards stood by and allowed inmates to brutally beat another prisoner.

He once said that it was "An honor" to be compared to the kkk.

We live in a time in which decent and otherwise sensible people are surrendering too easily to the hectoring of morons or extremists.

Re: Trump's First Pardon

By pardoning hims and Arpaio accepting it, he is now considered to be admitting guilt.

May the civil suits that now are surely to come be large and burdensome for this awful man.
