Filling the Swamp

Cronyism rules in the Trump White House

Trump plans to nominate non-scientist to head science at USDA

Washington (CNN)

President Donald Trump plans to nominate his longtime campaign aide Sam Clovis to head science at the US Department of Agriculture, despite the fact that Clovis lacks a background in science and a congressional rule maintains that the role must be filled "from among distinguished scientists."

Clovis, who has been serving as senior White House adviser to the USDA since Trump took office, has a background as an economics professor and a former talk radio host, but he has no formal background in the hard sciences. The White House announced Trump's plans to nominate Clovis Wednesday night.

The nominee for under secretary of agriculture for research, education, and economics, was an avid supporter of Trump in 2016, serving as his chief policy adviser and national chair.

Clovis ardently defended Trump throughout the campaign.

We live in a time in which decent and otherwise sensible people are surrendering too easily to the hectoring of morons or extremists.

Re: Filling the Swamp

It's quite obvious that loyalty is the number one priority for this regime.

Re: Filling the Swamp

It's reached the point where no real scientist, or person of real character, would take a job working for Donald Trump.

Re: Filling the Swamp

What Trump doesn't seem to realize is that if you surround yourself with responsible, competent, qualified people, the nation would run more smoothly and he wouldn't have to hit us with a tweet storm day after day criticizing what he says is 'fake news'.  Anyone in a leadership role with half a brain knows that.

Trump isn't about competence and making things run smoothly. He was elected in order to give the middle finger to the educated, the press, and the competent, by an angry group of people who wanted nothing more than to kick over the chessboard.

His entire Presidency is about antagonizing the press, and rejecting experts in favor of his big brain and negotiating skills. It's really working out well.
