Rosenstein: Comey Memos Were Confidential and Improperly Leaked

We already knew this release was improper.  Just how impartial was Comey?

Rosenstein: Comey Memos Were Confidential and Improperly Leaked

https://jonathanturley.org/2017/07/20/rosenstein-comey-memos-were-confidential-and-improperly-leaked/

Fox News’ Martha MacCallum aired an interesting interview with Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein this week in which the Rosenstein reaffirmed something that I have previously said: the memos leaked by James Comey were FBI documents and their release violated FBI rules and regulations.

The media has largely ignored indications that some of the memos were indeed classified and that Comey broke FBI rules by leaking material to his friend (with the intent of his giving the information to the media).  Rosenstein however did not address one glaring issue of his own: his own conflict of interest in continuing to oversee the Special Counsel investigation while being an obvious and important witness in that investigation.Rosenstein agreed with MacCallum that

“As a general proposition, you have to understand the Department of Justice. We take confidentiality seriously, so when we have memoranda about our ongoing matters, we have an obligation to keep that confidential.”

When asked about releasing the memos in light of those rules, Rosenstein stated “As a general position, I think it is quite clear. It’s what we were taught, all of us as prosecutors and agents.”That is a pretty damning statements against Comey who did not have to leak the memos in order to have them considered by investigators, as I have previously discussed

“We hold these truths to be self-evident,”  former vice president Biden said during a campaign event in Texas on Monday. "All men and women created by — you know, you know, the thing.”

Re: Rosenstein: Comey Memos Were Confidential and Improperly Leaked

Certainly the propriety of the release of the memo is an issue.
But, an incredibly minor issue.
The elephant in the room re Comey is the President's admission to Lester Holt - and his Russian buddies - that he fired Comey in the hopes of stopping the investigation of Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

Focusing on the memo is just a rather desperate attempt to change the subject.

I believe Comey was well aware of what he was doing and he accomplished his objective by forcing Rosenstein and the department of justice into action mode which caused Sessions to recuse himself and Rosenstein to appoint a special counsel to investigate Trump's actions.

What do the law enforcement authorities keep telling us? If you see something, say something.

Seeking the truth can be a messy business at times as some will cheer, some will cry 'foul', and others may not care.  But, in the end, you have to ask yourself, "What is important?"

What is important?
Well, let's see now:
Releasing a memo that you yourself wrote which contains no information that hurts the United States,
or investigating the efforts of a hostile government to undermine our elections.

Not. Even. Close.
