Somebody help me out here.
The Senate is delaying the healthcare vote because John McCain's medical issues. Ok, but I thought McCain wasn't going to vote for the new proposal anyway. If that's true, then what's the deal here? I mean if the purpose is to reach the magic number of 50 votes why would McConnell wait until McCain was back in the Senate?

I thought that Collins and Paul were the only hard "NO's" on the GOP side, and that they were hoping that McCain would be one of the fifty.

You may be right, but recently more and more governors are voicing opposition because this new plan shifts much of the burden from the federal government back to the states. Governors aren't equipped (nor do they want) to take the flack from constituents of their own state when they can deflect responsibility or blame the federal government for what happens in the future.
I think McConnell senses that and is using McCain's medical issues to kick the can down the road for awhile. Just my opinion.
