McCain on Kushner backchannel reports: 'I don't like it'
Washington (CNN)Arizona Sen. John McCain is not pleased about reports that Jared Kushner proposed setting up a secret communications channel between the Trump transition team and the Kremlin.
"I don't like it," the Republican lawmaker said Monday in an interview with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's "7:30" when asked about President Donald Trump's son-in-law's possible ties to Russia.
"I know that some administration officials are saying 'well, that's standard procedure.' I don't think it's standard procedure prior to the inauguration of the president of the United States by someone who is not in an appointed position. And I think that (former FBI Director James) Comey we now know took action that he did in regards to then-candidate (Hillary) Clinton because of some false news that was being put out by the Russians.
I mean, this becomes more and more bizarre. In fact, you can't make it up."

There are two big problems of what Kusher did - 1) is the timing of the attempt to set up the backchannel communication which appears to have violated the Logan Act and 2) using Russian diplomatic outpost to accomplish the backchannel communications. As the investigation proceeds we will see just how bad (or not) these actions were. Certainly at best it was a sign of an Administration that has no clue about how to operate which we are seeing signs of every day.

I believe Andy Borowitz offers some insight into the future when the poop hits the fan:
Donald J. Trump on Saturday accused the media of exaggerating his relationship with Jared Kushner, asserting that “I don’t know him very well.”
“He’s someone I would see around the office and who, I guess, was working for me,” Trump told reporters on the last leg of his foreign trip. “Beyond that, I couldn’t tell you much about him.”
Trump acknowledged that he had spoken to Kushner at times during the 2016 campaign. “I’d pass him in the hall and say hello,” he said. “He seemed like an O.K. person. I never got much of a sense of the guy.”
When asked whether Kushner might have had improper contact with Russian spies during the transition, Trump said, “I couldn’t tell you if that’s the kind of thing he’d do. You really should ask someone who knows him.”
Trump refused to answer further questions about Kushner’s possible legal difficulties, saying only, “I wish Garrett well.”
