(CNN) President Donald Trump plans to sign an executive order Thursday that could allow churches and other religious organizations to become more active politically, according to officials.
The order will direct the IRS to exercise "maximum enforcement discretion" over the Johnson Amendment, which prevents churches and other tax-exempt religious organizations from endorsing or opposing political candidates. It will also provide "regulatory relief" for organizations that object on religious grounds to a provision in Obamacare that mandates employers provide certain health services, including coverage for contraception.

I read that this morning and thought the very same thing. I'm flabbergasted that the same people that are forever crowing about "the founding fathers", "the constitution", "patriotism", and doing what "the American people" want, apparently have no qualms about systematically dismantling the building blocks of our representative republic when those blocks don't suit their personal perspectives.
Can you say contradictory and hypocritical?

Historically, theocracies seem to end badly.
The reason seems related to the fact that such a government, when applied to millions, creates an "other".
Those who are not "us". Those who do not live their lives correctly.
Once the "other" is gone, the system will turn on itself.
You might as well insist on a government featuring Lucifer. The end result will always be the same.
Good, evil, indifferent. This is our composition. This is who we are.
And who we are not.

Ok, here's the plan, CT: We start a church and claim Satan is the god we worship. Since we can now be politically active, we promote Donald Trump from the pulpit. We tell people that Satan and his followers favor Donald Trump. And, hey, we're tax exempt, too!
Picture this: A tax-exempt religious organization that worships Satan can now legally get involved in politics and openly promote Donald Trump. Could make for interesting bumper stickers.

If it makes you all feel any better, the ACLU thought it was going to have to due the Trump administration but upon reviewing the Executive Order, they found it so toothless and ineffective that they pulled the it plans to take it to court.

Yes, it's an order about nothing. Both sides see it.
The the order is “an elaborate photo-op with no discernible policy outcome.”

Trump’s Order on Religious Liberty Pleases a Few, but Lets Down Many Conservatives
WASHINGTON — President Trump signed his long-awaited executive order on religious liberty Thursday with a full-throated reassurance that he would protect the freedom of American believers. But the reactions of religious leaders across the country suggested that it instead promised freedoms many of them did not want — and failed to deliver concrete legal protections that conservatives had been led to expect.
The centerpiece of the order is a pledge to allow clergy members and houses of worship to endorse political candidates from the pulpit, fulfilling a campaign promise that Mr. Trump repeatedly used to rally his most fervent supporters. Public opinion polls show, however, that neither the American public as a whole nor religious leaders in particular — even evangelicals, who voted for Mr. Trump in droves — think that partisan politicking by churches is a good idea.
The order was also a stinging disappointment for conservative religious leaders who had expected that it would exempt their organizations from Obama-era regulations aimed at protecting gay people from discrimination.

MOST of the EO's are "toothless". They are primarily photo-ops for the Sheeple.
