First of all, by labeling these things 'rallies', the people that attend can be screened so the crowds are team supporters right from the start and therefore aren't likely to challenge him. Secondly, I think there is something about the use of money raised for campaigning is not subject to the same rules as money used to host townhall type meetings. Am I right on these two points?
On the first, of course you are right. People self select to attend these rallies. You might be able to pay me to go, but you'd have to count really, really high. So, Trump can count on a friendly audience. He flowers under adoration, and wilts under logical questioning
As to your second question, I do not know.

Trump just spent $1.5 million on, what is basically an attempt to get around the news with a campaign ad.

The Presidency has become a reality show (or perhaps I should say un-reality)

President Donald Trump’s campaign organization is launching a $1.5 million run of TV ads touting his accomplishments in his first 100 days. The ads buy, announced Monday, is paid for by Donald J. Trump for President, Inc., and will air in major markets throughout the country and will target specific voting groups online.
That's what I thought. He has a 'campaign organization' that doesn't have to comply to the same scrutiny as other organizations that fund national projects and/or issues. The donors might be able to remain anonymous and instead of having campaign monies plowed back into the nation, they can be used to continue to promote the Trumpster. Usually, after an election, the left over campaign funds are used for other purposes. However, in a perpetual campaign, the money raised is used to fund the never-ending campaign. It's clearly a rip-off.
