Re: Senate plunges toward historic rules change in Supreme Court standoff

The Senate is just catching up with the breakdown of unity and comity that has swept the nation as a whole.
And, we all saw it coming.
In  2013, Senate Democrats used the nuclear option to require only a majority vote to end a filibuster of certain executive and judicial nominees.
Last year Republicans expressed their enmity and disdain for bipartisanship and tradition with the Garland fiasco.
I think that episode made this day inevitable.

As voters, constituents, citizens, or whatever classification you deem yourself, we have only ourselves to blame for sending the same tired old partisan people, that are beholding to their party and their benefactors rather than the people they are supposed to represent, back to our federal and state legislatures year after year after year . . . And then to expect something different from them.

Next time you step into the voting booth, think about that.

Judge Neil Gorsuch has been confirmed as a Justice of the Supreme Court.

Yes  54

No 45

Thank you President Trump for nominating Neil Gorsuch an excellent choice
and well qualified for the Supreme Court vacancy.

Yes, thank you for not nominating Judge Judy

Just more butt hurt about losing the election!  You could not find a person any more qualified to
serve on the court. But we have to have a very snarky comment. Some things are better left unsaid.

"Butt hurt"?
Are you 12 years old?

I wonder at the credit you give Trump for picking Gorsuch. What were you afraid that Trump would do?

So, Trump managed to nominate a guy who would have been on the short list of any republican president.
And then Trump expended so little effort that the Senate had to change it's own rules to get the guy confirmed.
Big deal.

I'm sure you have some anal related term to respond with. Go with your strength.

Specifically, what stances and interpretations of laws we already have that you feel Gorsuch will promote and uphold?  Are there any cases pending that you feel Judge Gorsuch will rule in favor of your position on a specific issue?

In the past he seems to have made decisions that favor the desires of the corporate world over individual citizens.  You would like to see more of this?

Re: Senate plunges toward historic rules change in Supreme Court standoff

My two cents:

I generally disagreed with most of Justice Scalia's rulings. But I also really enjoyed reading his opinions because they were thoughtful, measured interpretations of the law. And I think that was the reason Justice Ginsburg was his best friend on the court. Because I appreciate intelligence more than ideology. (Which I way I loathe Donald Trump more than anything else)

I suspect that I will disagree with Justice Gorsuch. But based on everything I know, I think he will be a serious measured justice. And while I wish we'd be looking at a Hillary Clinton appointed justice, I think this was the best would could have gotten from President Trump.

I think you're going to see a lot of different United States of America over the next three, four, or eight years. - President Donald J. Trump
