Going Back to the Well

Having had his ass handed to him on his first attempt to shepherd legislation through Congress, Donald Trump will go to his strength.
He's going to have a signing ceremony.

Yep, Donald is going to sign another Executive order.
He'll thrust his chin out. He will say that environmental policy is "a disaster"
,,,,
, and that now jobs will rain down from heaven.
Then Donald will hold his EO up for all to see like a 8 year old with a craft.

Of course the order will do little.
It won't bring back coal mining.
It won't achieve "energy independence", which is a meaningless term in a global energy market.
It will just let major polluters continue to pollute.

Planned Rollback of Climate Rules Unlikely to Achieve All Trump’s Goals

President Trump is expected to sign an executive order on Tuesday to roll back most of President Barack Obama’s climate change legacy, celebrating the move as a way to increase the nation’s “energy independence” and to restore thousands of lost coal mining jobs.

But energy economists say the expected order falls short of both of those goals — in part because the United States already largely relies on domestic sources for the coal and natural gas that fires most of the nation’s power plants.

“We don’t import coal,” said Robert Stavins, an energy economist at Harvard University. “So in terms of the Clean Power Plan, this has nothing to do with so-called energy independence whatsoever.”

The saddest part of this whole thing is Trump is raising false hopes in coal country for a revival that will never happen. Market forces have caused the decline for the coal industry. And the long term future is not bright.

Maybe in 4 years when most of them STILL do not have mining jobs they will understand it was just one more of those PROMISES that were nothing but political hot air.
