Republicans' Obamacare replacement bill: The winners and losers

The CBO has yet to score the new Republican replacement of Obamacare and we will see how the Conservative pack of the R-tribe responds, but that is a story for another day.

Here are some of the list of losers in the new bill.

The bill eliminates the enhanced federal match for Medicaid expansion starting in 2020 and revamps the funding for the entire Medicaid program. The most glaring weakness of the GOP bill is that it will likely leave millions uninsured, experts said. Republican lawmakers have repeatedly skirted that question, but reviews of preliminary drafts by the Congressional Budget Office confirmed the problem, sources said.Lower-income folks could be left uninsured.

Folks making $20,000 a year take the biggest hit at any age under the GOP plan, a recent Kaiser study found. A 27-year-old would get only $2,000, instead of $3,225 under Obamacare, on average, while a 40-year-old would get $3,000 versus nearly $4,150.

However, the biggest loser would be a 60-year-old, who would receive only $4,000, instead of nearly $9,900 under Obamacare.Older Americans could have to pay more.

Enrollees in their 50s and early 60s benefited from Obamacare because insurers could only charge them three times more than younger policy holders. The bill would widen that band to five-to-one.

Re: Republicans' Obamacare replacement bill: The winners and losers

I'm not putting too much stock into this bill.

The Freedom Caucus hates it. Moderate republicans in the Senate don't like the changes to Medicare and Presidnent Trump has gone from "We will repeal and replace on day one" to saying this will be a three phase replacement.

Republicans still have a very long way to go to get to a solution that is both good for the country and satisfies their base.

Additionally, history shows that 2018 will likely be good for the Dems, as Trump will have scared the hell out of independents for two years. The Dems will capture a good amount of seats in the House and could possibly recapture the Senate.

I think you're going to see a lot of different United States of America over the next three, four, or eight years. - President Donald J. Trump

Yea, the Bill isn't getting much love on the republican side.
I'm not sure what problem it solves.

We live in a time in which decent and otherwise sensible people are surrendering too easily to the hectoring of morons or extremists.

Isn't about time we start talking about a public option?  What's the hang-up?

Give people a choice:  Buy into the medicare system or shop around for a for-profit health insurance company to take care of your needs.

Oh, oh.  Trouble in Paradise:

Influential conservative lawmakers and activist groups panned health-care legislation drafted by House Republican leaders Tuesday, throwing the GOP’s plan to undo the Affordable Care Act in serious doubt less than 24 hours after it was released.

Those groups dubbed the House bill, backed by House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.), as “Obamacare Lite,” “RyanCare” or “RINOcare” — a reference to “Republican in name only,” a popular conservative epithet for establishment politicians.

And the plot thickens:

With the ink barely dry on the legislation, powerful conservative groups and prominent GOP lawmakers started lining up against House Republicans’ plan to replace Obamacare, even as President Donald Trump threw his support behind the legislation.

With little early defense from the White House, the groups issued sharply worded statements against the House GOP replacement bill, which would offer less generous insurance tax credits and phase out the law’s Medicaid expansion while striking its unpopular individual mandate penalty.

The Heritage Foundation’s advocacy arm called it “bad policy.” FreedomWorks panned it as “Obamacare-lite.” And the Club for Growth called it a “warmed-over substitute for government-run health care.”

Club for Growth, which is known for keeping scorecards gauging how conservative Republicans are, said it would "key vote" the bill. It dubbed it “RyanCare.” FreedomWorks, meanwhile, plans to launch a six-figure campaign against the legislation.

Hey, where are the R-Tribe loyalists on this?  Are they with the tribe or Trump?  Inquiring minds want to know!

Re: Republicans' Obamacare replacement bill: The winners and losers

The first question I always ask my elected representatives in the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives about the "complicated" issue of healthcare is:
"Why don't you just offer the healthcare insurance plan that you enjoy to all your constituents?"

I have yet to receive a viable direct response to that question.
