He appears to be quite a disturbed wingnut, but I'm guessing he's a copycat.

Yes, a wackado. And probably just a copycat.
As reported by ABC:
A man accused of making at least eight threats against Jewish community centers, Jewish schools, a Jewish museum and the Anti-Defamation League was arrested by the FBI in St. Louis, Missouri, this morning, though the man is not believed to be the main suspect behind this year's rash of bomb threats, two law enforcement officials told ABC News.
Juan Thompson, 31, is accused of what federal prosecutors called a “campaign to harass and intimidate.” He’s charged in New York with cyberstalking a New York City woman by communicating threats in the woman’s name. Prosecutors said Thompson appears to have made those threats "as part of a sustained campaign to harass and intimidate” the woman after their romantic relationship ended.

Whacko !
He was a "reporter" for the online (also rather Whacko) publication The Intercept. The purpose of The Intercept was to basically serve as a platform to report on the documents released by Edward Snowden in the short term, and to "produce aggressive, adversarial journalism across a wide range of issues" in the long term.

MAN ARRESTED FOR JEWISH CENTER BOMB THREATS IS AN ANTI-TRUMP MUSLIM CONVERT
Trump proven right yet again
A man arrested by the FBI in connection with bomb threats made against Jewish community centers across the country is an anti-Trump leftist who recently converted to Islam.
