I hope we have a better clue about the whole complicated situation in Yemen. We certainly did NOT in Iraq understand all the competing factions and we currently have a mess there and here as a result. Here is the update on the strikes.
On thing struck me from the article
It was stated that the strikes were aimed to degrade the terror group's "ability to coordinate external terror attacks and limit their ability to use territory seized from the legitimate government of Yemen as a safe space for terror plotting.
Pretty much right now there is a 3 way power struggle in Yemen. A number of years ago Saudi Arabia went into Yemen to help the government battle Houthi rebels who were supported by Iran to keep Iran from getting control in that area. As an unintended consequence they strengthened AQAP in Yemen to the point they are now a power player there.
From the article below:
In a recent statement issued by the Saudi embassy in Washington, Saudi officials said that their campaign had “denied terrorists a safe haven in Yemen.”
Sound familiar ?
How Saudi Arabia's war in Yemen has made al Qaeda stronger – and richer
Wonder IF we will bumble ourselves into yet another war without understanding all the players and the implications. It looks like we are headed that way.

Maybe the raids were aimed at moving the Russian story off the front page

Likely.
And possibly bumbling ourselves into yet another internal conflict where there will be no winners.

No the Russian story was done to move President Trump's highly successful speech story off the front page.
People across the country embraced the speech. The democrats are in major disarray.
Two early polls: Trump’s speech was a winner

Should we treat this like Syria? Set a RED line and then do nothing when the line is crossed.
Look how well that worked out. 400,000 + dead and the creation of a massive refugee problem.

No, we will wind up likely treating this like IRAQ. Look how swell that whole thing turned out for US and them.
Do you understand the circumstances of all that is happening in Yemen ?

If you are comparing this to Syria, clearly you do not understand the situation.

The R-tribers alway used to slam Obama on that "Hopey-Changey" thing. Well so far all we have is a speech. Results including actually getting legislation passed is going to be a bird of a different feather.
Yemen has been in the midst of a civil war for a number of years.According to the UN, from March 2015 to January 2017, 16,200 people have been killed in Yemen, including 10,000 civilians.
Kind of a wasted diversion, however, from the topic at hand though
