Sanders Calls on Sessions to Resign

LIVE COVERAGE: Jeff Sessions under fire
© Greg Nash
Attorney General Jeff Sessions is coming under fire for allegations that he lied under oath about meetings he held with Russia's ambassador to the United States.

A number of Republicans say Sessions should recuse himself from any investigation of Russia, while Democrats are calling on him to resign.

The Hill will be providing updates throughout the day on the Sessions news here.

Sanders: Sessions should resign

Updated 11:54

Add Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) to the growing list calling for Attorney General Jeff Sessions to resign.

In a statement, Sanders says the country needs "a Justice Department that will give us the facts about Russia’s involvement in the 2016 election and their ties to the Trump campaign, not one led by someone who deliberately misled Congress about his own communications with the Russian government."

"Attorney General Sessions should resign and a special prosecutor should be appointed to give the American people credible answers about Russia’s involvement in the U.S. election."

Maybe if the Trump Administration told us which members did NOT have ties to the Russians it would be a shorter list.

Re: Sanders Calls on Sessions to Resign

We will see IF this forces Session to resign or not. That he could forget to include this important piece of information during questioning ESPECIALLY to distance him from any appearance of misleading is rather incredulous to me given all that has come to light about Russian interference.

That said, what is really interest is that old addage of "What goes around, comes around" for it was Sessions himself that called for then AG Lynch to recuse herself from being involved in an investigation and that a Special Prosecutor should be appointed since she had ties to from a "contact" with former Pres Clinton and their discussion on a plane during the election. Guess some would call this "payback"
