One of his major promises in the primary and general election. Work to secure our Southern border!
Trump Administration Makes Its First Move to Build Border Wall
President Donald Trump’s administration is soliciting ideas from contractors on how to build its promised wall between the U.S. and Mexico, a first tangible step toward delivering on the president’s signature campaign promise to curb unauthorized immigration.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection issued a preliminary request for proposals Friday, saying it plans to release a formal solicitation around March 6 “for the design and build of several prototype wall structures in the vicinity of the United States border with Mexico.”Vendors were asked to submit prototype concepts by March 10. Those that advance would submit proposals including prices by March 24. “Multiple awards are contemplated” by mid-April, it said.
Trump signed an executive order last month to begin preliminary steps toward building the wall, which could stretch almost 2,000 miles (3,218 kilometers) from the Gulf of Mexico to the Pacific Ocean. No cost estimates were included, and Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly has said his plan is to “secure our southern border with effective physical barriers, advanced technology, and strategic deployment of law enforcement personnel.”

This isn't a political comment, but a subject matter expert's (me) opinion on soliciting a bid on a 14 billion dollar job within 3 weeks from issuance of a RFP to receiving bids.
You cannot get a comprehensive scope of work on a job of this size and price it accurately in 3 weeks. You just can't.
Hell, the surveying of the land alone to determine the path of the wall should be a 8-12 job alone.
So if the Trump administration accepts a bid to start building a wall without all a defined scope and set of requirements, I guaren-friggin-tee you the cost overruns to the U.S. taxpayer will be astronomical.
I promise you Donald Trump, the real estate mogul, wouldn't be this flippant with a building he was sinking his own money into.

La Gran Muralla Mexico tiene menos de 5 años y se extiende más de 5,000 millas.
I hear the low bid, and therefore the leading contractor thus far, is from Jose Ortega based in Nogales, Mexico.
What a sham this wall to protect our borders has become.

Good post.
When I think of that wall,,,,,well,,,, a two word phrase starting with "Cluster" comes to mind.
Oh well, gonna make some contractors rich. There's a long and glorious history of running up the bill on Uncle Sam that goes all the way back to selling rotten beef to the Union army.
