Profile in, um,,, Courage?

Louie Gohmert Won’t Attend Town Halls Because ‘Giffords Was Shot At A Public Appearance’

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) invoked the shooting of former Rep. Gabby Giffords (D-Ariz.) on Thursday to explain why he doesn’t want to meet his constituents in a town hall meeting.

“At this time, there are groups from the more violent strains of the leftist ideology, some even being paid, who are preying on public town halls to wreak havoc and threaten public safety,” Gohmert said in a statement, perpetuating GOP politicians’ unfounded claims that “paid protesters” are disrupting the meetings.

Gohmert then mentioned Giffords, who was shot in the head in 2011 during a meeting with constituents. She survived, but six others died in the tragedy.

Gohmert’s statement comes as angry constituents flood town hall events across America, demanding that their representatives stand up to President Donald Trump’s policies and explain the GOP’s plans to replace Obamacare.

In a statement released Thursday, Giffords reminded Gohmert that she attended town halls despite the tragedy she faced.

“I was shot on a Saturday morning. By Monday morning, my offices were open to the public,” Giffords said. “Ron Barber ― at my side that Saturday, who was shot multiple times, then elected to Congress in my stead ― held town halls. It’s what the people deserve in a representative.”

“To the politicians who have abandoned their civic obligations, I say this: Have some courage,” Giffords said. “Face your constituents. Hold town halls.”

Re: Profile in, um,,, Courage?

Giffords, as you know, was shot in 2011 by a man diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. So, by referencing this attack as a reason to avoid town hall meetings, Rep Gohmert is saying that the danger of a deranged person shooting people is so great that a Congressman cannot meet with his own constituents.

Wow. That really is very troubling.

Wait for it,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Of Course, last month, when Rep Gohmert had the chance to make it more difficult for the dangerously unstable to get guns,,,,,
He voted  to ease restrictions on people with mental illness to get gun permits.

Re: Profile in, um,,, Courage?

If you've ever heard Gohmert speak, or read anything written by or about him, it's pretty evident that Louie is already brain dead.

Gohmert, like many of his colleagues, avoid live, public town hall meetings because they don't want to be confronted with pertinent questions posed by constituents on issues that are important to them. They have no viable answers, and know the usual campaign rhetoric will not suffice as answers. They are afraid of looking stupid, even though that seems to be a normal day-to-day activity for them. Guys like Gohmert have a much greater fear of their constituents, facing the issues, and truth than they do of some wacko with a Glock showing up at a town hall discussion.

What a piece of work this Gohmert guy is.  Make it easier for mentally ill people to walk around with a gun and then claim he can't meet with the people he is supposed to represent because mentally ill people with guns might attend his townhall meeting.

They confuse "life inside the Beltway" with "my life is inside the Beltway" and "there is no life outside the Beltway"

We are very blessed to have Congressmen who, for decades, have commuted to DC rather than become part of the "insiders".
