R.I.P. American Exceptionalism

When Ronald Reagan thought of America, he saw "A shining City Upon a hill."
When Donald Trump thinks of America, he sees the moral equivalent of Putin's Russia.

Hey, I'm no fan of rose colored glasses. America has it's faults, after all.
But, to suggest that we are no better than a regime that routinely murders political opponents, dissidents, and journalists,,,, to suggest that we are no better than a country that has participated in the genocide of Aleppo, the rape of Crimea,,,,,,,,
What a disgrace. Trump's remarks are a slap in the face to every patriot, every elected official, every man and woman who has served in uniform,,, every American alive.

In addition, the So-called president has given Putin free rein to commit any atrocity, any aggression that he wants. Putin can answer any act with the retort, "You guys aren't perfect either".
What an idiot.

By the way, can you imagine the uproar that would have ensued if Barack Obama had done such a thing?
I recall that in 2009 Obama said, "The United States is still working through some of our own darker periods in our history, Our country still struggles with the legacies of slavery and segregation, the past treatment of Native Americans."
And the right went nuts. They said Obama humiliated the nation with "an Apology tour"

Where is the Right this morning?

Trump defends Putin: "You think our country's so innocent?"

Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump appeared to equate US actions with the authoritarian regime of Russian President Vladimir Putin in an interview released Saturday, saying, "There are a lot of killers. You think our country's so innocent?"

Trump made the remark during an interview with Fox News' Bill O'Reilly, saying he respected his Russian counterpart.
"But he's a killer," O'Reilly said to Trump.
"There are a lot of killers. You think our country's so innocent?" Trump replied.

Looks like another attempted murder on Putin's hands.

Re: R.I.P. American Exceptionalism

Mitch McConnell comes out against Trump's foolhardy comments.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Sunday said he doesn’t view Russian President Vladimir Putin the same way as President Trump does.

McConnell called Putin “a thug” during an interview on CNN's "State of the Union." The Kentucky Republican noted Putin is a former KGB agent and rejected Trump’s attempt to downplay Putin’s human rights abuses.

When asked about allegations that Putin is “a killer,” Trump told Fox News’s Bill O’Reilly on Saturday that the United States has its own record of extrajudicial killings.

“You think our country’s so innocent?” he asked.

McConnell pushed back against that on Sunday.

“I don’t think there’s any equivalency,” McConnell said of the human rights records of the United States and Russia.
“America is exceptional," he added. “There’s a clear distinction here.”

A lot of people (including me) think that the Congressional leaders of BOTH the R and D tribes are just "political gasbags", I centainly DO agree with McConnell on this issue, however.
