One more major campaign promise kept. This will help secure our porous Southern border.
The ranchers along the Southern border will be happy that some action is finally being taken.
And for government standards two years is pretty quick.
DHS secretary: Border wall should be finished in two years
MCALLEN, Texas –
EXCLUSIVE: In his first television interview as Homeland Security secretary, retired four-star Marine Gen. John F. Kelly told Fox News he wants the U.S.-Mexico border wall finished in two years – setting an ambitious schedule for the project ordered last week by President Trump. "The wall will be built where it's needed first, and then it will be filled in.
That's the way I look at it," Kelly said. "I really hope to have it done within the next two years."Fox News traveled with Kelly in McAllen, Texas, on Wednesday where he saw first-hand the challenges for Border Patrol agents. The Rio Grande Valley, known as the "RGV sector," is among the busiest.
On any given day, Border Patrol agents pick up at least 600 people who have crossed the Mexican border, entering the U.S. illegally. Those personnel, he explained, are all part of the broader plan for securing the border. "Any discussion about the protection of our southwest border involves discussion of physical barriers but also of technological sensors, things like that,” he said. “But it's a layered approach, and it’s got to be backed up by great men and women who are going to make sure that the wall is intact."

Huh?
Is the wall done?
Have they even started?
Somebody has opened the champagne during the pre-game show.
Crazy.
I don't get it.

They don't even have the money appropriated yet for it !
Never let any of that get in the way of claiming success !

You know, for a while I thought that they would have to build something.
Maybe they'd put 90 miles of fencing, and add a few more border agents,,,, and declare mission accomplished.
But, now it doesn't appear that they have to do anything but talk, and the trumpers will be happy.
Crazy. I guess it helps if you base isn't all that smart.

There's an old axiom in business I thought of after reading the article.
You can have things made fast, well made, cheap. But you can only pick two.
The Trump admin has picked fast. So they can do it on the cheap, and it will likely still be porous. Or it will very expensive.
Which direction will Trump go?

Trump will go in the direction that achieves the goal.
You just have to know what the goal is.

From a practical standpoint, there are many issues that need to addressed before you can promise that a wall would be fully complete
The wall needs to be designed
The land needs to be surveyed
Materials needs to be procured and contracts signed
What are the lead times in obtaining the materials to build the wall
From my understanding, the existing border walls that have been built in the last 20 years are in areas known for high levels of illegal traffic. Where a wall hasn't been built yet is because the land is remote and hard to get across. That tells me that it's going to be difficult and time consuming to build roads and basic infrastructure to get materials and workers to the future site of the wall.
Now America has taken on huge challenges before. We built the Hoover Dam. The government could throw a massive amount of people at it. It would create jobs throughout the supply chain.
It would also be very expensive.
I guess the question will be whether the taxpayers get a return on their investment?

You are laboring under the misconception that the goal is to construct a physical barrier that will stop illegal immigration across the southern border.
That is not the goal.
The goal is to be seen as a man of action, tough, fearless against the enemies of the state.
Heck, you just need enough steel and concrete for some photo-ops.

I'm sure the wall will be the most tremendous wall ever built on earth (suck it Great Wall of China).
I'm sure the wall will exceed whatever budget is set for its completion.
I'm sure the Mexican government will not contribute one peso towards building the wall.
I'm sure people wanting to cross the border will figure out ways to go over it, under it, through it, or around it (ref: the Berlin Wall).
Past experience has shown us that walls erected for these purposes eventually crumble and do not perform the task intended for them to do.
I'm sure this wall will be subject to the same fate.
I'm sure this wall is a boondoggle that will cost the taxpayers (us) a lot of money for planning, erection, and maintenance . . . And be a failure at solving the problem politicians claim it willl.
This wall is a fool's folly, a waste of money, will be ineffective at 'securing the border', and nothing more than a granfalloon devised by a false leader to appease some ignorant voters.

Disagree. His supporters want the damn wall. If he doesn't deliver, the GOP is toast at the midterms and Trump is toast come 2020.
