Trump Nominates Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court
It looks like the nominee is pretty much a mainstream conservative judge.
I am in no way surprised. Despite the big primetime "show", it's kind of a yawner.
However, conservatives seem thrilled,,,,,,,,, actually relieved might be a better word.
Maybe they were worried that he was going to pick Judge Judy.

I read this morning that Rachel Maddow on her show last night that Gorsuch was the best we could hope for out of Trump. A mainstream conservative justice.
Obama's Solicitor General said last night that Gorsuch is the brightest American legal mind in the last 100 years.
I wonder if there are better fish to fry for the Dems than trying to filibuster Gorsuch?

The case for 8 - Interesting read.

Maybe we should wait until the next presidential election and 'let the people' decide. Wasn't that the reason for not allowing Garland to be voted on? If my memory serves me correctly it was shelved and blocked for 300+ days.
I say we go with 8 judges for a year or two. If another sitting judge leaves, then go with 7, and so on.

Check out Gorsuch's mother, Ann Gorsuch Burford. She was Reagan's EPA administrator and she nearly destroyed the EPA. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

I am wondering that myself.
Hey, the Republicans certainly would deserve it. Don't get me wrong.
But, I wonder what will play better politically. He's probably the best you could hope for.
Neil Gorsuch is principled, honest, eloquent. Basically, nothing like Donald Trump.
Yea, a big fight will fire up our base. And it will fire up their base.
But would it move the needle among the reluctant Trump Voters? And if so, which way would it move?
Maybe, keep your powder dry for the next fascist move the clown does that clearly is antithetical to America values and seize on fighting that.

I am sure that Judge Garland is all of those things.

The problem with that strategy is that McConnell can push the "nuclear option" button and end the filibuster and then Gorsuch gets in on 50 votes.
Also, you have some Dems in red/purple states up for re-election (McCaskill, Tester, Brown, and our own Bob Casey) that could be hurt if they blindly obstruct a qualified nominee.

Don't forget Joe Manchin, the Democratic Senator from a state in which Trump won 68% of the vote.
He isn't going to go along with a filibuster.
When it comes to rebuilding democratic fortunes, I am unsure if the filibuster strategy will help or hurt.
