The Newest Lie

http://thehill.com/policy/national-security/316670-trump-refugee-ban-bars-green-card-holders-report

Trump signed an executive action Friday halting the country’s Syrian refugee resettlement program for 120 days and barring people from certain Muslim-majority countries from traveling to the U.S.

The administration says the halt in the resettlement program is designed to give it time to tighten the vetting process for refugees. The order also gives Christian refugees priority in the resettlement process.

“If you were a Muslim you could come in, but if you were a Christian, it was almost impossible"
Trump said in an interview with Christian Broadcasting Network on Friday.

A Pew Research Center report found that the U.S. admitted nearly equal number of Muslim and Christian refugees in 2016.

Where the hell did get data or insight into this?

And concerning the banning of people due to their religious belief system:

What if  I subscribed to the Muslim faith, but said I was a Christian?  How about people like Cassius Clay or Cat Stevens who converted to Islam?  I think we're opening a can of worms here.  Might be safer to be an atheist or agnostic to keep the government from bothering you.

Re: The Newest Lie

If the administration wants to argue that they should give Christian refugees preference because they are at greater risk in places like Syria,,,, let them try to make that argument. That would be fine, if they can prove it.

But, don't lie and say that we have made it "Almost impossible" for Christian refugees to come in.

Stop lying, Mr. President.
Just stop.

Re: The Newest Lie

TRump's lying is so egregious that even long time cynics are aghast.

Up Is Down’: Trump’s Unreality Show Echoes His Business Past

As a businessman, Donald J. Trump was a serial fabulist whose biggest-best boasts about everything he touched routinely crumbled under the slightest scrutiny. As a candidate, Mr. Trump was a magical realist who made fantastical claims punctuated by his favorite verbal tic: “Believe me.”

Yet even jaded connoisseurs of Oval Office dissembling were astonished over the last week by the torrent of bogus claims that gushed from President Trump during his first days in office.

“We’ve never seen anything this bizarre in our lifetimes, where up is down and down is up and everything is in question and nothing is real,” said Charles Lewis, the founder of the Center for Public Integrity and the author of “935 Lies: The Future of Truth and the Decline of America’s Moral Integrity,” a book about presidential deception.

It was not just Mr. Trump’s debunked claim about how many people attended his inauguration, or his insistence (contradicted by his own Twitter posts) that he had not feuded with the intelligence community, or his audacious and evidence-free claim that Hillary Clinton won the popular vote only because millions of people voted for her illegally.

All week long, news organizations chased down one Trump tall tale after another. PolitiFact, a website devoted to checking the veracity of claims by public officials, published 12 “of the most misleading claims” Mr. Trump made during his first White House interview. The Chicago Tribune found that Mr. Trump was incorrect when he claimed two people were shot and killed in Chicago the very hour President Barack Obama was there delivering his farewell address. (There were no shootings, police records showed.) The Philadelphia Inquirer found that Mr. Trump was incorrect when he said the city’s murder rate was “terribly increasing.” (The murder rate has steadily declined over the last decade.) The indefatigable fact checkers at The Washington Post cataloged 24 false or misleading statements made by the president during his first seven days in office.

But for students of Mr. Trump’s long business career, there was much about President Trump’s truth-mangling ways that was familiar: the mystifying false statements about seemingly trivial details, the rewriting of history to airbrush unwanted facts, the branding as liars those who point out his untruths, the deft conversion of demonstrably false claims into a semantic mush of unverifiable “beliefs.”

Trump Lies about Philadelphia

Philadelphia Mayor Slams Trump's 'False Statements' About City's Murder Rate

Philadelphia mayor Jim Kenney didn't take too kindly to Donald Trump's claim Thursday that the City of Brotherly Love's murder rate is increasing.

"President Trump's false statements today were an insult to the men and women of the Philadelphia police force -- the very same men and women who are working long hours today to ensure his safety," Kenney said in a statement Thursday, following remarks the president made at the annual GOP policy retreat in Philadelphia.

Trump said at the retreat, "Here in Philadelphia, the murder rate has been steady -- I mean just terribly increasing. And then you look at Chicago, what's going on in Chicago? I said the other day, what the hell is going on?"

Defending the city's crime rate, Kenney said in the statement, "Our police officers have worked tirelessly and with great personal sacrifice to get Philadelphia's crime rate down to its lowest point in forty years, while also successfully implementing reforms to strengthen police-community relations and uphold the rights of all our residents."

Kenney added, taking a jab at the Republican party's stance on gun control, "Our homicides are, in fact, slowly declining, and while we are not satisfied with even our current numbers, we are handicapped by Republican refusal to enact any kind of common sense gun control and by their obsession with turning our police officers into ICE agents –- which will prevent immigrants from coming forward to report crimes or provide critical witnesses statements that can put dangerous criminals behind bars."

Trump says his order didn't cause weekend airport chaos

WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Donald Trump on Monday denied his immigration order was to blame for the chaos at the nation's airports over the weekend, instead pointing to computer glitches, protesters and even the "tears of Senator Schumer."

Re: The Newest Lie

In justifying the appointment of Steve Bannon, the president's chief strategist, to the National Security Council, Trump spokesman Sean Spicer cited Obama strategist David Axelrod's role in the Obama White House as a precedent. Spicer said press secretary Robert Gibbs and Axelrod attended classified National Security Council meetings "all the time."

That is simply not true.

Re: The Newest Lie

But, hey, what do facts matter when someone can present 'alternative facts' to match our predetermined view of the world?
