One of two gunmen who shouted 'Allahu akbar!' as they opened fire at a mosque in Quebec City was of Moroccan origin, a witness and local media reported Monday, revealing the first details about the attackers in the massacre that killed six men.The terror suspects were identified as Mohamed el Khadir and Alexandre Bissonnette, a court clerk told The Associated Press. The two men were arrested soon after the shooting at the Quebec Islamic Cultural Centre Sunday night and were expected to appear in court later Monday, police told reporters.

“It seemed to me that they had a Quebecois accent. They started to fire, and as they shot they yelled, 'Allahu akbar!' The bullets hit people that were praying. People who were praying lost their lives. A bullet passed right over my head,” the person said.

New Update!
Police say only one suspect in deadly Quebec City mosque attack

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/quebec-city-mosque-shooting/article33822092/

After initially saying there were two suspects, police from the Sûreté du Québec confirmed around noon Monday that there was only one. The other is being considered a witness. Court officials in Quebec City identified the men as Alexandre Bissonnette and Mohamed El Khadir. It was not immediately clear which man was the suspect.

Yeah, seems like just about all the other networks are awaiting for actual facts instead of "alternative facts".

Maybe they got it from RT (Russia Today) RT carried the same story.

Re: Quebec mosque shooting: 6 dead in act of terror

Suspect in Quebec Mosque Attack Quickly Depicted as a Moroccan Muslim. He’s a White Nationalist.

A MASS SHOOTING at a Quebec City mosque last night left six people dead and eight wounded. The targeted mosque, the Cultural Islamic Center of Quebec, was the same one at which a severed pig’s head was left during Ramadan last June. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called the episode a “terrorist attack on Muslims.”

Almost immediately, various news outlets and political figures depicted the shooter as Muslim. Right-wing nationalist tabloids in the UK instantly linked it to Islamic violence. Fox News claimed that “witnesses said at least one gunman shouted ‘Allahu akbar!’,” and then added this about the shooter’s national origin:

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer exploited the attack to justify President Trump’s ban on immigrants from seven Muslim-majority countries. “It’s a terrible reminder of why we must remain vigilant and why the President is taking steps to be proactive rather than reactive when it comes to our nation’s safety and security,” Spicer said at this afternoon’s briefing when speaking of the Quebec City attack.

But these assertions are utterly false. The suspect is neither Moroccan nor Muslim. The Moroccan individual, Mohamed el Khadir, was actually one of the worshippers at the mosque and called 911 to summon the police, and played no role whatsoever in the shooting.

The actual shooting suspect is 27-year-old Alexandre Bissonnette, a white French Canadian who is, by all appearances, a rabid anti-immigrant nationalist.

A leader of a local immigration rights groups, François Deschamps, told a local paper he recognized his photo as an anti-immigrant far-right “troll” who has been hostile to the group online. And Bisonnette’s Facebook page – now taken down but still archived – lists among its “likes” the far right French nationalist Marine Le Pen, Islam critics Richard Dawkins and
Christopher Hitchens, the Israeli Defense Forces, and Donald J. Trump (he also “likes” the liberal Canadian Party NDP along with more neutral “likes” such as Tom Hanks, the Sopranos and Katy Perry).

Good post.  Sometimes (no always) facts are a troublesome thing for those with a pre-determined agenda.

Our Updater seems to have lost interest in this story since the killer was found to be,,,well, an unMuslim.

Since the media doesn’t seem to care, here are the victims of the Quebec mosque attack

By Kylie CheungPosted on February 1, 2017

On Sunday, an attack on a mosque in Quebec resulted in six fatalities, and new details about the victims are beginning to surface in the Canadian press. The suspect, Canadian Alexandre Bissonnette, has reportedly been identified as a white nationalist, and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau responded to the incident by identifying it as a “terrorist attack on Muslims.”

Here are the victims:

Ibrahima Barry, 39, a father of four, was one of the six victims. Barry’s friend, Moussa Sangare, told the Toronto Sun, Barry was a “dedicated family man who was always with his children.” Barry worked in information technology at the health insurance board of Quebec.

Mamadou Tanou Barry, 42, Ibrahima Barry’s cousin, worked in Quebec to support his family in Africa. Both Ibrahima and Mamadou Tanou were attending a Qur’an reading with their children.

Azzeddine Soufiane, 57, another father, was a grocer and butcher, at among the most prominent grocery stores in the local Muslim community, a family friend told the Toronto Sun.

Khaled Belkacemi, 60,  was a professor at the Universite Laval’s food science department and a father of three.

Abdelkrim Hassane, 41,  was the final victim of Sunday’s attack. A father of three, Hassane worked in information technology for the government and that he was a father with three daughters and a wife.

Aboubaker Thabti, 44, was born in Tunisia and worked in a pharmacy. He was married with two young children.

“Our university community is in mourning today,” the Universite Laval’s rector Denis Briere said in a statement. “We mourn the death of an esteemed member of the faculty and the university, a devoted and beloved man of his colleagues and students.”

Sunday’s attack reflected the impact of prejudice and Islamophobia that subjects Muslim communities to hate crimes due to harmful, stereotypical portrayals of them as terrorists. There is no shortage of violent crime committed by white males, but white communities are not subjected to the same stigma and stereotyping as marginalized people who are forced to represent their communities.

As Sunday’s attack demonstrates, the consequences of this stereotyping can sometimes be fatal.
