Another great chapter in our Democracy. Trump advisor Steve Bannon has no use for a free press.
Imagine the howls of outrage we would have heard had President Obama told Breitbart News not to do their jobs.
Trump Strategist Steve Bannon Says Media Should ‘Keep Its Mouth Shut’
WASHINGTON — Stephen K. Bannon, President Trump’s chief White House strategist, laced into the American press during an interview on Wednesday evening, arguing that news organizations had been “humiliated” by an election outcome few anticipated, and repeatedly describing the media as “the opposition party” of the current administration.
“The media should be embarrassed and humiliated and keep its mouth shut and just listen for awhile,” Mr. Bannon said during a telephone call.
“I want you to quote this,” Mr. Bannon added. “The media here is the opposition party. They don’t understand this country. They still do not understand why Donald Trump is the president of the United States.”

I don't know what to say. I really don't, other than make an observation about how establishing authoritarian governance takes hold. It's important to control the press.

Sounds reasonable to me ..... "Just Shut Up" !

Yes indeed, can't have the public thinking something's wrong in happy-land.

CNN anchor Jake Tapper had a terse response to President Donald Trump's adviser Steve Bannon, who insisted in an interview with The New York Times that the news media should "keep its mouth shut" about the new president.
"No," Tapper said in the opening of his show, "The Lead," on Thursday.

I'm not saying that the media deserves this, not at all. The Trump administration's attempts to control what the media writes and reports is alarming. But...it's not like the media isn't due for some comeuppance, right? Over the course of my 32 years the news cycle has spun faster and faster, especially cable TV news which has crossed the line into sensationalism on countless occasions. The drive to break the story first, over-analyze trivial things, and keep viewers on the edge of their seats at all costs has really tarnished my view of the media in general. Now they want us all to acknowledge that they're the victims of the Trump administration's attacks and we're all supposed to rally behind the media like they've been protecting us from "fake news" and "alternative facts" all along...maybe some have, but some level of scrutiny is still required across the board.
But yes, I'm glad that there are still legitimate media outlets and that we're not yet subjected to Infowars all day long.

I hear what you are saying, Doug, and share all of your criticisms of the media.
I don't accept Bannon as having much credibility as a critic in that regard.
But, if Bannon, who frankly is part of the problem, had called for the media to improve,,,, well, while rolling my eyes at him I would have to agree.
But for a partisan to call for a free press to be silent,,,,,, yes, I will rally around a free press.
For they are essential,,, warts and all.
