In my lifetime I don't ever remember such open vitrol and disdain of an incomming POTUS. When you add the worldwide similar reaction it is rather astounding.
While there was widespread more covert racist reaction to Obama (that persisted throughout his Administration) there was NEVER anything like this or as open.
Words DO have consequences and we are seeing it big time.
I don't see him recovering from the perception that these people have of him. It IS possible, but I don't think he knows how to do it given how he operates.

Here's a cool story.
Shaughnessey Naughton, who lives in Bucks County, PA and ran for Congess in my district (I voted for her in the primary last year but she lost) has started a political action committee to recruit scientists to run for office.
The PAC is called 314 Action and The Atlantic has a write up on it here.

That is a great idea. I wish her well. It would be nice if legislatures, both state and national had more people in them who understood science. Damned useful, in fact.
